Is Eglinton still on the go? Had a look at the mfh website and they weren't listed...

Any idea what area L&R typically cover?

Am a newbie, but am determined to get out this year!

Some more newbie questions - any thoughts on taking a 3yo out for a half day?

Is jumping essential?! She'll make a cracking hunter, but don't want to jump her much this year.

How does second-horsing work - I take it if I can find a willing helper/driver there'll be a preappointed changeover place, or do they just need to try to keep tabs on where we'll be?

I take it if I ask nicely secretary might be able to recommend someone else going at a more steady pace to keep me right?!

Many thanks in anticipation!

I can answer a couple of points:

I think the Eglinton and L&R are to amalgamate this season. There should be a recent news story on the H&H website about it.

When we second horse we usually keep in touch by mobile phone (will be shot down by the traditionalists for this). We find out roughly where they are, park at a sensible spot then I get on the second horse, ride it over to the Master (or whoever I'm taking it for). If they're not quite ready to swap or have started running etc. I'll follow on, then when they're ready I get off the second horse and onto the first one, which I then take back to the lorry, take home and get washed and put to bed before the rest arrive home.
Very occasionally we swap horses at the boxes and I don't need to get on at all, it just depends how the day pans out.

Yeah will be Lanark and Renfrew and Eglinton this season - bit of a gobful! This will encompass a really substantial part of the country - from west of Glasgow all the way down to south of Ayr with a huge mix of countryside. I've hunted with the Eglinton in the past (in fact did my uni dissertation based around them) and there are some cracking meets - the opening meet at Caprington was always a good day - loads of decent fences to jump, got my first experiences of jumping hedges out there too. Unfortunately my last day with them finished up with one of the guns very kindly taking me across the fields on his quad to a waiting vehicle to take me to hospital (lovely rotational fall over wire - we weren't aiming for wire may I add...). Did a few meets with the L&R last season qualifying pointers - much more hill country at the meets I went to. Definitely never got to do as much jumping in L&R country as in Eglinton country but when riding pointers instead of my trusty nifty coloured cob that was never such a bad thing! Really excited to see what they'll come up with this year, you'll get a huge variety for sure. Have rambled a bit, PM me if you want more info so as not to bore everyone else on here!
