First of all, apologies for the rambling and the huge photos.

Mine and Ballet's first BE event, did the Novice (having done PC Open all last year). I was going to do a BE100 first, but it got cancelled, so I was like "shall I change down, shan't I?", but she's been going so well recently that I decided to just go for it (with permission of instructor!) Some pictures as Mum was a star and brought the camera, no video though.

The dressage test, was the hardest one we've done so far. In the warm up she was going really nicely, but as soon as we see the boards, its like woahh! Head down, lean on bit and bulldoze everywhere (well that's what it felt like, Mum said it looked fine), and leg yield didnt happen much as everything was wayy too exciting! So was very pleased with 35.5, which I think was about half way.

Recently we've been SJ'ing up to height unaff. courses really nicely, so I felt we were all set for the SJ.... First impressions were "everyone jumps huge in the collecting ring!" (probably because at PC the rule of thumb is to not jump over course height in collecting ring.), everytime it got put down someone cranked it back up again. To be fair Ballet jumped all the warm up fences really nicely, usually she over jumps or spooks at them, its really strange.

Went in, though I had "the" canter, apparently not, first down, second down, then it went swimmingly for a bit, then had the planks down as arguement over striding happened, but she jumped all the others really nicely. Very disapointed as hoped all Prep. would pay off. My riding went to pot, and Ballet took a liking to the stallion who was following us in and kept whinneying her head off to him (she's in season. typical)

XC is definately both our favorite phases! The course would have to be one of the biggest we've done, and the only thing that was niggling at me was the rider frightner at 5.

She jumped brilliantly, and I was pleased with how I rode, we jumped a pretty nice clear, didn't push her for time as just wanted a clear at a speed which she was happy at. Had a scary moment at a log to a drop to a hedge, got a bit close to the log, slithered over it, no reins for the rather long steep drop, managed grab them just in time to make the hedge. Thought I was coming off! We had 14 time pens, but as I didn't push her at all, just let her bowl on, I was pleased.

We finished 20th. The best dressage test she has on her BE form, with previous owners, and best placing at Novice, so I'm really chuffed! Looking forward to seeing the Pro pics. :)

And when she got home, she went out for a few minutes to stretch her legs and have a role.

after her role, and before the plaits were taken out. She did half the job for us!

Help yourself to the biscuit tin if you got this far! :D

wow i take my hat off to you...you are very brave to go novice as your first BE run :) she looks fab in the pictures...you must be very :D where next?

Thank you. :) Everyone was so lovely and polite, asking us if we wanted any help, very different to PC! Really enjoyed it, even if the SJ was a little all over the place. I was extremely chuffed! :D It was brilliant! Can't wait to go again now! :D

Ermm, got the atherstone PC ODE May bank holiday, but not sure about our next BE. Was thinking maybe Aston Le Walls or Brigstock? :/ Not sure.... Any suggestions in the Midlands area? :/

Looks and sounds to me like a very good combination having a very good first BE.

Super horse and those are some serious fences - I saw AT LEAST three 'number 5's! I shall be watching for your future reports. Pony Club seem to have set you up very well.

Well done!

P.S. I think you mean a 'roll' in the field after all that competing.

well done sounds like a really good day! I was there doing the novice aswell and the showjumping warm up was stupid, not the amount of people but the height they were jumping! i think they were trying to have their very own 'puissance'. well done!

Phew, glad I'm not the only one who thought that! So, its not always "a who can jump the highest" in the warm up then? Thought it was a little OTT. Thanks, How did you get on? :)
