Just arrived home from an amazing few days at our first ever camp! My butt cheeks hurt like never before and I feel like a broken woman but it was so worth it!

We arrived the night before to settle Rocks so he could have a decent rest before the start of camp. It's a good 3.5/4hr drive for us, he settled so quickly considering he's never had a stay away ever!! Sleeping arrangements... I know who pulled the short straw!

The first morning was glorious, we had SJ in the morning followed by Dressage.

Obviously Rocky wanted to be an overachiever from the start:cool: I mainly do flat stuff with him like BD and a little bit of showing.
He does absolutely love his jumping but can be a real wimp when it comes to fillers so is pretty green and needs a lot of confidence from me which isn't always there.. but in all fairness to him he hasn't done a lot of jumping at all.

He was such a good boy though and only ducked out at one which was the second part of a double that happened to have a little filler in it!
Ann our instructor was amazing she gave me so much confidence and pushed me but in a really encouraging positive way, we even did a 1m!
A few months ago I was worrying over a baby 50cm working hunter classo_O

Unfortunately didn't get any photos of the dressage lesson but he was really well behaved, just absolutely knackered :p

We had XC on the second day, this was a little interesting. Rocky has done XC about 5/6 times previously so is again green, the ground was really wet and muddy.
The little diva had a couple of tantrums at the start because he refused to jump if there was a puddle before the jump and there were many..
We couldn't get over a 50cm at one point he was just throwing his toys out the pram.
After accepting the fact he was going to get his hooves wet and having a little blast to open him up he was quite happy to pop most things, took him a while to figure out horsewear island :D

Got too deep to this, saw the puddle on the other side and decided launching to space was a safer option..

Water phobia wasn't there this time!

Yes he's a tiny 15hh but we are on a hill too :p

part 2...

a 90 fence that he made light work of, was super chuffed!

Our final day(today) was a little mock ODE.
Dressage went well, decided not to run him XC as the ground was awful after yet more rain, the closed the XC to the public.. and I didn't want to knock his confidence after yesterdays good note.
I was going to do a 90 sj but he felt a little flat in the warm up bless him, we did an 80/85 round and he was fantastic didn't stop at the fillers which I was beyond chuffed with :D

I'm not sure how a little horse can make an 80 look so small..

We had an amazing time, I learnt a lot and got a real confidence boost in the SJ!!
I love this little horse he is so honest and he truly tried his heart out for me!
He slept pretty much all the way home bless his heart, a good few days off for both of us is well deserved ;)

That looks like super fun! And your horse looks a lovely sort :) I'm taking my boy to camp at the end of this month, all being well - I'm excited and bricking it in equal measures - sure we'll have a blast though! Your pics have made me look forward to it even more!

Wow, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has left lovely comments about Rocky.
These images were taken when I purchased him in Dec 2017/Jan 2018.
I saw a real sadness in his eyes, he was hugely overweight, had been out of work for over a year and incredibly footsore. He had things living in his tail, was riddled with worms and quite frankly and was a real mess, my partner said to me as I led him to the box 'you have made a huge mistake, why on earth do you want to take him on'.

He is the sweetest horse I have ever met, he is a pleasure to do in all ways and tries his absolute heart out for me every time.
How someone could let such a genuine person loving horse go to waste is beyond me.
We have both worked hard to get to where we are today, he out does himself time and time again.. the sky is our limit Rocks!:)

:eek:that porky pony is never the same as the horse in the OP!! That's an amazing transformation.

He is a super smart jumper from those pics - he's definitely not aware he's only little:cool:

And luckily you had the best, most loveliest people in your group😂 It was a fantastic camp!

Ali!!:D Our group was perfect, thank you for being so supportive when we needed it! X

Gorgeous boy! You look like you had a brilliant time. 😀

Thanks so much CT, we really did! x

Well done! Looks like great fun. Our riding club is doing a camp at Stockland Lovell next May if you fancy that.

Thank you, ooo I would certainly be interested! x

This looks brilliant, what a super wee chap your horse is.

Not sure about the sleeping arrangements!

Thank you wheels:):), my 6ft4 boyfriend had a worse night sleep than me ;) x

What a gorgeous boy!! Well done, pair of superstars :D I reckon your sleeping arrangements look quite cosy actually!!!

Thank you so much :D, it was flipping boiling in there, no need to worry about the cold! 5ft4 me survived but my partner said his back in in half.. he is over 6ft haha!! x

Looks great fun and a lovely horse, I actually slept on a mattress in the horse bit of my friends lorry at Royal International a few weeks back, the things we do for horses eh!

Thank you very much! Oh indeed, only the best for them :p x

Lovely read, what a super horse! Really do like him!!

Thank you so much, he really is super!! x

Your horse is a super jumper, he makes a lovely shape over every fence.

Thanks Cortez, he really does love it and was pinging me all over the shop! It's my job now to put on some brave pants and get him out doing more :) x

What a gorgeous horse. You can tell he could jump the moon by that bascule!

Thank you SA :D! He would give it a good go that's for sure ;)

I know!! Those photos make me sad, such a shame to think he could have had the rest of his life spent in that field :(
Oh he thinks hes a big boy that's for sure :p;)xx

What a great post! And made all the more inspiring by the 'before' pictures. Cracking boy and great job OP you should be very proud :)

thank you Denbob!! Feeling super proud, haven't stopped smiling yet!! x

He’s a cracking little jumper, only reason you have the odd stop/run out is because he is very careful. He would be a very very useful 15hh WHP!

Thank you IHW, that is true. The run outs are rare and are my fault, I haven't quite set him up straight and like you said he is so careful. He is so honest I have set him up badly a few times and he will get us over the otherside somehow!
We have done some SHP/Intermediate SHP classes always placing in the top 3. I took him to his first WH show a few months back and he won, he did look super smart.
My aim for this autum/winter is some WH classes that's for sure! :)

Glad you had a great time BvR. Told you it would be awesome. I'm planning next year already.

And luckily you had the best, most loveliest people in your group😂 It was a fantastic camp!

Is that you on ginger pony in the pics! I did not know you were on HHO. Nice to 'see' you!

Glad you had fun too Ali! My friend Lindsay was there too that week as her horse was unwell the week she was meant to be with us. We should co-ordinate next year and have a HHO Eland contingent!

Ali are you doing the team event again this year? BvR you should try and do that if you can. It is so much fun. My favourite event of the year.
