If I was to buy a girth with elastic at both ends is it wise to go a size smaller than usual as when you do it up you usually stretch the elastic a bit?

My old girths were 52 & 54 inch, but now I have a new saddle the 54 is way too big and the 52 is slightly loose on the top hole but ok. I was thinking if I got one with elastic at both ends should I go for 48? If I was getting one without elastic I would have gone for 50"

My saddler always says its better to go for the girth with elastic in the middle rather than at the ends - as elastic at the girth buckles can result in the saddle being pulled onto the back with uneven pressure. Elastic in the centre part of the girth eliminated this apparently... he's the expert! lol
