This is slightly pointless but my best friend isn't around and I need to share!! Today I rode my new lad (had him since the end of September, he's 5). We've been riding a bit more lately after doing groundwork on the lunge, mostly. He was quite frightened of the bit when he first arrived but has improved loads with gentle side reins and encouragement.
Anyway today he spent most of our 20 minute ride (mostly walk, little bit of trot) in an outline. I don't understand this. My riding is rubbish after a long break. He's 5. The most I was hoping for was long and low, and he's popping into a nice outline seemingly by himself. A very experienced chap on the yard confirmed my thoughts that it was lovely and relaxed, rather than just having his head pulled in which I wouldn't want of course. I feel like we are cheating because in 3 years my cob never had an ounce of collection and my new lad just does it!
Just wondering if I've missed something or if this is bad in some way or what other explanation there can be for it. Or perhaps the planets just aligned for us today! Thank you if you got this far for indulging me
