Hi All, this is the first time I have posted in Dogs, I am really worried about my little terrier and would love some experienced advice.

Polly is about 13 and looks like a Norfolk terrier - she isn't though, she's some kind of cross but I am not sure with what!!

On Monday night she had a fit. She went rigid, quite frankly looked dead

. She poo'd herself but slowly started coming round. After about 5/10 minutes she got up and went to bed. Although, she still managed to get up for her dinner 10 minutes later.

I wasn't with her on Weds but apparently she had another fit (my mother was Polly-sitting) although it didn't sound as extreme as the last time.

The only other thing that is different is that she is drinking A LOT (but not going out more??? - she is very clean). She is also very very legargic with no energy. I know she is an old dog but this is happening very quickly.

The vet ran a blood test and found nothing particuarly out of the ordinary. He said there was a slight renal issue (that wouldn't need treatment) and low red blood cell count (didn't need treating). But certainly nothing that would cause a fit.

I know that this could be some kind of tumour in her brain, but what about her lethargy and drinking??? I am taking her back on Monday to let the vet know EXACTLY how much she is drinking and to take in a urine sample (errrr how do I do that.)

Any ideas? So sorry for essay. Nice glass of wine and cookies if you've got this far.....

Your vet should be able to provide you with a plastic container that you put under the dog as it pees, then you up-end it so that the urine flows into the small tube with lid that comes with it. I can't remember what they're called. Otherwise just use something clean to catch it in then put into a clean container.

Hiya, you could use an old frying pan to catch pee or a washed out plastic food container (like the kind you get a Chinese takeaway in) can you tell I've done that before?!

Fingers crossed you get some answers on Monday.

Thanks both. The vet hasn't given me anything to catch her wee in

but I like the takeaway tub idea. Particularly as it means we have to have a takeaway!

I still think Pol will be absolutely horrified if I come near her with a frying pan or a takeaway tub when she is weeing though!!

LOL Eccles I asked exactly the same question a few weeks ago when I had to collect a sample from my greyhound - I was dreading it, but as it turned out it was incredibly easy

I used a microwave meal container which I had cleaned out, and although I thought she would run away she actually didnt notice as I popped it under her! Then tipped it into the sample tube the vets had given me - and it was as easy as that

Fingers crossed things go OK for you

hehe its not just me that worries about these things then!

The vet said and I quote "its okay we don't need a bucket of it or anything" but he didn't sound like he was joking!! I presume just one wee is enough????

OMG yes, one is plenty

Have they given you a sample tube to put it in? My vets gave me a sample tube with a screw top - it was about twice the size of a tube of polos - and that was plenty for them
