Went out today for a hack minding my own business and having a meaning of life conversation with horsey as you do. Turned off the lane onto the bridleway to see two big leave blowers in the verge with the cables running straight across the bridleway...no way of avoiding them and no one apparently around. Now my horse is pretty sensible so he walked over them no probs...had no worries he would stand on the cables as he wont even stand on the hose pipe in the yard but still was abit dodgy and with hindsight I probably should have got off...anyhow. The 'owner' of said leaf blowers was in his garden which borders the bridleway in the bushs flapping a large plastic sheet, which spooked horse a little. He then came out of the bushs back onto the bridleway and I joked that horsey thought something in the bushs was going to eat him ha ha and the bloke just turned on me and said with a strange amount of venom...well get the horse better ********** trained then and then proceeded to turn the leave blower back on...remember this is all on a public bridleway...not his garden. Luckily horse is very sensible but the electric cables were really pretty dangerous. I know worse happens but am abit upset that us horse riders seem to get grieve even when we are where we should be!

He sounds like a barrel of fun. Just be glad your encounter with him lasted a few seconds, his poor wife has to put up with him day after day. (If he still has one that is.)

I must admit I did think something similar myself! It is just abit annoying that you can even get abuse when you and your horse are on a bridleway...he was talking like I was in the wrong...really lucky my horsey is well behaved I guess. Does make me pine for my youth where we could hack out safely and people were actually pleased to see us...what has happened to people, everyone always seems so grumpy:confused:

Whereabouts are you, OP? He sounds very like a psychotic man I knew who used to do things just like that on the bridleway next to his house. He even lit bonfires there and let his dogs roam the common (they chased horses onto the road). Delightful man.

Oh dear...it would appear we are surrounded by k*** h****! I am in deepest rural Lincolnshire which if Im honest seems to have his fair share of nutters

Just to add I have reported him, normally I would approach things like this face to face in a friendly manner but he dosent seem the sort to be reasonable with and as I think it was quite deliberate to put riders off using the bridleway thought the powers that be should now...they were actually more annoyed than me!

I have decided to treat like for like, so if someone thinks they have the right to be shirty to me when i didnt ask for it, they better expect to get the same back. You wanna be nice i will be nice, its enough now people treating others like dirt all the time.

I am with you all the way with this...as a rule most people who talk to me like I am some sort of lower form of life get very short shrift (as my mum would say) but I must admit when I am with the horses I try to act with abit of decorum as I dont want to give people the excuse to behave badly towards me or other riders in the future...saying that the occasional ********** t*** still creeps out though that is normally when a driver is acting particularly dangerously and needs telling...why cant people just be nice and stop being so bloody grumpy all the time

What an unpleasant man! You were being all jovial and that's what you get! Were the cables lying flat across the bridleway or were they pulled taught like a trip wire?

Well they were straight across the bridleway, no way of avoiding them and were def' plugged in as he turned one of the leaf blowers on while i was approx 10m's down the track!! To be perfectly honest I probably would have turned a blind eye to the cables and just put it down to absent minded daftness and an opportunity to educate horse though he is about as bomb proof as you can get...it was the arrogant attitude and total lack of civility that p***** me off...he is clearly a very unhappy man!

After the case of the race horses dying of shocks I am so careful of electric cables won't ask horse to go over them. I would of rather gone back if I couldn't of got them moved, and were there any warning signs?, well done on reporting.
