Electric Fence, battery energiser recomendations

I have the fenceman cp500. ive had it 6 years now and the only thing ive had to replace was the earthing wire that was chewed by small rodents!! Its been great. I have quite a lot of wire to energise though. Not sure in the difference in price for the cp250 and cp500 but it might be worth spending alittle more and getting the larger one then you dont need to worry about your distance of tape.
I run mine of just a normal car battery. I have a few and rotate them.

I've got the CP250 (got it 2nd hand on eBay) and its fantastic. Can get a proper shock from it when I'm not concentrating!!!

I bought a battery pack from Mole Valley Farmers for £99 - 2 12V batteries and a mains charger. Works out about the same for buying it separately with no worries about the compatibility of the charger and batteries etc.

They don't need charging that often (it obviously depends on the length of fence) but I think I've only charged mine 6 or 7 times since September.

Ensure you keep the battery off the ground though - charge will drain away otherwise, and make sure the tape is fully insulated from the ground - even wooden fence posts, branches or wet grass in contact with the live tape so drain the battery very quickly.

Hope that helps xxx

The CP250 or 500. Dead easy to use, runs off a 12V battery (car battery). Secret of good electric fencing is making 100% sure the tape/wire is touching nothing but plastic (so no wood, metal, grass etc) so the charge doesn't drain down it.

Ah thanks for the replies guys. Has anyone tried solar? The Fenceman CP250 has a solar one I saw In robinsons equestrian catalog. Does anyone think the extra for solar is worth it? xx
