I have a 'starter' electric fence kist which basically runs off 2 x D batteries which I recharge and put back in the unit. Unfortunately they only last 2-3 days before the power goes and it's a faff to remember to charge some up, put them back in etc etc. But what's the best solution? Sell my electric fence pack and buy one that runs off a car battery, or is there a way of engineering the one I've got to run off a bigger battery (hubby is quite handy!)?

Really need to keep my section A off the longer grass and the only thing he respects is a good electric shock!

Thanks all

I would check everything thoroughly as 2-3 days life of the battery isn't normal. I have an energiser with 4 x D batteries (non-rechargable) and they last months. Is energiser designed to run on rechargable batteries; are the batteries and/or energiser old or faulty; is the fence properly earthed and the wire/tape touching anything to drain the power; is the fence too long for the size of the energiser? You can only use the type of battery recommended by the energiser manufacturer and some will run on either sort but you will need to check your instructions as you could damage the unit by using the wrong type. Hope you solve the problem.
