Afternoon all.Hope you are all well?.I have an electric fence splitting my field up.I have the liveryman CP500 energiser with two strips of fencing tape/cord.I run this off a car battery and was wondering roughly how long the battery last.I have no problems with it earthing anywhere and no shorting out.i need to get another battery but just wondered how long your battery will run the fence before it needs charging??.Thankies.

Would depend on condition of the battery, some old ones that are no good for cars can go dead very quickly. a decent one that has full charge should last a couple of weeks. Car batteries arent ideal for electric fencing as they are designed to have the cars engine charging them as they are being used. A leisure battery will do a far better job mine lasts at least 12 weeks switched on constantly. It only cost £35 so not much more than a car battery

Ideally you need to use a leisure battery to power a fence, a car battery is not designed to be run almost flat without causing damage to it.

I have an energiser powering a double strand of rope electric fence, distance approximately 1200 metres & I use a 85 amp hour leisure battery. The energiser will power up to 18 kilometers of fence. I only have the fence powered in the day (horses stables at night). I routinely re-charge the battery once a month however it is always working well when I re-charge. I just get into the habit. I do have a metre that I can check the charge running through the fence to keep an eye on it. I normally have around 4000v + running through it.
