I'm the proud owner of a ID x type with absolutely no regard for fencing of any sort in the winter- He's got as much hay as he will eat put out daily and tbh the grass in my 3 paddocks is about the same in each so he's not getting a better deal in a different one!

Anyway fact is I need to replace the whole lot and its going to be expensive. I have wooden posts most of which are still good bar the odd one or two he windsucks on. I did have tape and isolators which clip up but the isolators no longer clip into place and the tape is wrecked, held in place by knots and goodness knows what. Infact much of it is removed and he has almost free run of the place.
Can anyone recommend a decent probably online supplier and advise as to which isolators and tape/wire would be best?

As you have wooden posts I would try Fieldguard. They do the thick green tape which has robust wires running through it. Definitely get new isolators and make sure you have a good quality earth stake. Clear away any vegetation that will touch the tape.

We have three layers of type with the highest being at my shoulder height and this does seem to deter the horses from pushing through.

As far as an Energiser is concerned I will heartily recommend Hotline. My uncle farmed here where we live now for many years, and always used their stuff for his cows, and I've always found their leccy fencing stuff to be long-lasting and durable. Don't know about any others as have never deviated from Hotline! Just shows how good their stuff is..........

Hi,
I had a similar problem with my pony that just had to get to the grass over the fence. I looked at field guard but it is very expensive. The best alternative I found was the optima tape from farmcare uk very very nice to use and about half the price ( or it was last year ) . I have wooden posts and used there clamp insulators . Also they advised to use a mains energiser ( blue one ) and that really gives my pony a good telling off. Since putting it up he has stayed where i put him. I was clueless and they give me lots of advise including helping my partner when he was in the field putting it up.
