jerry is now allowed out although he's restricted to a small section the size of 3 stables.

I've never used electric fencing before and I'm kinda stuck. :o
there were two plastic bits with screw things - are these to hold the battery onto the fence?

the other question - I take it I'm supposed to tie the tape together at the ends?

help?

You don't need to have a circular run of the tape, although it does help should your horse break it at any point, the current will still run in it :)
No idea what sort of plastic things with screw bits you are talking about, sorry.
I suppose it is battery powered fencer you have? If so, there should be one lead attaching fencer to the fence, one lead attaching fencer to the earth stake (unless the fencer has an integral stake) and one lead, splitting in two at the end to attach the fencer to the battery (again, unless integral battery fencer). Does that help or muddy the waters?

ETS: if you tell me make and model of the fencer, I shall try to talk you through attaching it :)

thanks - I thought I'd put the battery together in the house tonight so all I have to do it attatch the croc clips to the tape in the morning.

the earth is already attached.
it's an Eddie palin fenceman battery

So, it is an energiser with battery inside? Fenceman is a fairly extensive range ;)
there should be just one croc clip to the tape, if the battery goes inside, yes, the screwy bits attach to it.

yes I think so :)
I'll sort out the cables tonight so I all I have to do in the morning is earth the battery and attach it to the tape.

thanks for your help :)

PMSL you made me weak!!! Not because I think its funny but because I was similarly perplexed when I opened my fencing kit.
Now I am a pro. Some, 8 months later :p :D

The plastic things with screws attached are insulators... I know this because my OH keeps on rebuilding my leccy fences when I don't use them. He is slowly learning to put it up when asked rather than waiting and having to fix it!!

a wee update if anyone's interested. :)

OH got the battery sorted last night and promptly shocked himself :o

I got my fencing sorted this morning and after lots of faffing I got the battery connected.

Jerry is now munching quite happily although he decided to treat me to a display of acrobatics that had me shouting at him in horror

thanks everyone's and thanks to Lost for offering to come and help me :)
