Hi All. I need to section off my pony's paddock. I have tape and posts but I'm confused about the whole energiser and battery side of it. The fence will be 75m long approx, two lengths of tape, and will be in use from now until mid Autumn (depending on the grass).

I don't want to spend hundreds on kit that is unnecessarily powerful. Is a leisure batter best if so, what amp hours? Can anyone recommend an energiser that will do the job for this relatively short amount of fencing? Are those energisers that run on D cell batteries powerful enough (I suspect not, but wouldn't mind your views).

Thanks very much.

Got to Farmcare UK website and buy one of their starter kits. Go to a local garage and ask for an old battery, undo the cells on top, ensure that you can see fluid covering the insides, if not go to garage and get a bottle of distilled water, fill up each individual cell so that the insides are covered but do not overfill. Charge the battery up.

Ensure that your fencing does not touch any wood or anything other than the fence posts, it must fun in a loop, i.e start where you are going to have the gate run along the top of all the fence posts down the last post at the other side of the gate opening and the run along the middle of the posts back to where you started. Ensure that you get a gate handle to attach the rope/tape across the entrance on to the plastic post, ensure that your energiser is earthed. Car batteries/leisure batteries are the most effective.
