ok do you want a mains powered fence or a batterry fence? do you have access to mains power? or do you fancy a solar powered system? or a battery charged system? tape or rope? plastic movable posts or semi permenant wooden posts with tape or rope? coats vary dependant on what you want, enegisers, fence fittings etc! i sell all of these so pm if you like. your fence is only as good as the power going through it!!!

if you are not running the fencing off mains youll need an energiser that runs off a battery, battery, then the electric tape or rope, then stakes, either plastic ones or wooden posts & connectors.
the energiser will set you back about £75 for a good one but you might be able to pick one up off ebay cheap - ive bought off paddock perfection before now for great deals, (or maybe a equine boot sale if theres any round you)
are you sectioning it off into parts or just round the edge? also are you just putting 1 strand up or 2 or more. obviously the more strands you want the more fencing you will need and the bigger energiser (they work in km's so you may want to get an larger area just in case)
youll be expecting to pay around £200 i would say - depends on how far apart you put your stakes and how much tape/rope you use

Another vote for paddock perfection on ebay. You could just ring him hes really helpfull for all electric fencing needs.
I have used 1200m of their rope to fence a 3 acre field including sectioning that into four paddocks. And I have a bit left over. He did me a deal for £33 for 400m.

well want it for plastic posts because then we can moe them and we will have proper posts and mesh and probely a metal electric on top as a precortion, but we want tape, and because of having a horse and miniture shetlands we will propaly have 3 heights of it, 2 strands going round as well, it will be battery powered.
i think my main problem is what height posts do i get and how much tape i need , i was thinking of just going the whole way round the field, instead of sectioning and things, depends on what is easier, sectioning is not a probelm as we do have plenty of space to constantly move it for grass and things

that 1200m did you just do it at one height or at two diffrent heighs or 3 diffrent heights??

mesh? be careful with your horses legs with that
height - ive got horse ranging from 14.1 to 17.3 and i just have the small 3ft ish plastic posts for temporary fencing, then rarely do anything to it when the electric is on - does depend on how wellk your horses respect electric fencing - mine dont go near it, whereas others ive know walk straight through it.

ive gone round one of my fields which is roughly 6 acres and I have 2 strands and i think i used 6 rolls of 200m tape. (i think it was about £25 per roll) ive used permanent wooden posts and dropped around 200 in - used 5'0 wooden posts.

My field is a rectangle I had three lines at the bottom because its near the road.

I had one line round the top of each wooden post (attached by insulaters) and every time I came across my section wooden fencing I went along the top, tied the gate handle and then back along the bottom (thats three lines of wooden fences) if that makes sense. This ran as a continuing line and was never broken other than were the rope is connected.

Hope that helps.

i dont know about the setlands but from the person we are buying the horse off, he took a shock from the electric fencing for he came over from irland and they did not put the fnece on for the first few days then he decided to take up leaning on the fence when it was time to come on, so they put the fence on and he got a bit of a shock,
not mesh but the white tape the people normally use is what i ment.
we will be using the plastic posts, by the soudns i need about 3ft heighabout 1000m of tape, and about 200 of the plastic polyposts,
does this sounds about right in people opinions???

yes I know what you mean now, was hoping you werent going to use the orange netting or sheep stock fencing.
roughly I would say about right. only thing you can do is get the stuff then start out. if youve got too much then thats great cos then you can use the extra to strip into smaller paddocks, Worse case, you need to buy some more.

shetlands take some fencing!!!! i know i have one !you will have to have some low powered fence. tape versus rope!? tape gives a better zap but rope will out do in years than tape will. its a hard game you could buy high spec tape or rope which doesnt break! but you could have a big big vet bill! the tape /rope that i sell will break at speed so no horse is tangled in charged fencing? personally i like a fence that carries a charge bur will break if pushed to the limits!
