Hi all

Myself and my boyfriend have just bought a beautiful house with a big garden and the plan is that when we move we'll install a dog flap for the dog and two cats. Now although the garden is secure and you can't see it from the road etc, I don't really want a standard flap for a. security reasons and b. all the neighbourhood animals coming in for a party!

So I've had a look at some electronic doors (which appear to only be available in the US or maybe that's my poor googling skills) which read a tag on the collar (perfect in theory) but nearly all the reviews I've found are not great - and these are not cheap doors!

Does anybody on here use an electronic door and can you recommend any brands? It doesn't need to be a massive one as its for a whippet.

Thank you :)

i have only seen cat-flaps which read the microchip inside the cat. but don't think a whippet would fit. to be honest an electronic door does not sound safe as if someone found out they will just wait for the dog to open the door and then walk in....

I can't help with reviews of doors but I agree id worry how secure it would be/ how it would affect the house insurance.
My neighbour has a regular dog flap but has sectioned off the end of the kitchen as a utility/dog room with a locked door so even if someone was dumb enough to get into the garden with 2 GSDs and a ridgeback (I've visited many times but I still wouldn't risk it without the owner there) they wouldn't be able to steal more than dog beds, towels, wellies and the washing machine.
Would this arrangement be possible?

Thanks for the replies. I've found one for medium dogs that reads a tag on the collar but it only appears to be available in the US. Good point about the insurance, will have to check that out.

Unfortunately we can't section an area off as otherwise that would be perfect.

Will have to have a good think about it - otherwise it'll be a cat flap only I think!
