Ok so to a dressage dunce - can someone give me an overview of the movements required in elementary?

Not a specific test, but what you should have mastered - i.e. Canter to halt etc.

Medium, free and extended walk, collected, working and medium trot, collected, working and medium canter. 10m cirles in trot and canter, simple changes (canter/walk/canter), trot leg yields, half walk pirouettes, rein back, counter canter on straight and 20m half circles is about all I can think of at the mo.

Also all upward transistions must be direct ie halt-trot, walk-canter etc though the downwards can be very slightly progressive.

Hope that helps.

I agree that if you want to do really well you need to have mastered these things but even if you are not absolutely polished you can still have a go. Have a look at one of the easier elementary tests. If you can do the circles and transitions reasonably well then you could have a go!

Elem 41 is basically a novice test with a simple change oput in. I doesnt even have collected trot in it. Shoulder in is introduced at the upper end. Not sure about the Pirras, know they come in at Medium but not convinced at elem.
Gd luck.

There's no simple changes in E41 and no shoulder-in in any elementaries any more. The walk pirouettes are in E58.

E44 is quite straight forwards too, collected trot and simple change are about as bad as it gets. Start with E41 or E44 they are quite nice tests. The canter to halt transition can be indirect in E44 but the upwards transition back to canter must be direct wall to canter. Collected trot is not as daunting as you'd think either.

Well I bought the Elementary tests, so currently wondering whether we can manage E51

Although also twigged that you have to do these tests in sitting trot apart for medium trot, so I'm going to have to wip my stirrups off and get training...
