Dear all

In a blood test with elevated muscle enzyme reading would you be concerned?

Vet stated not over high but just to make sure of warm up / cool down and getting the correct electrolytes before and after hard work

Any thoughts and helpful tips requested please

Don't worry too much if its not off the scale on different types of machienes (that do the bloods) you'd be amazed at the difference's of normal. However I would to be on the safe side treat as if Azoturic. i.e making sure never overly cold (especially when you first get on to ride), making sure they are properly cooled of and muscles cooled down after exercise before stabling and making sure you don't feed foods high in sugars, cerals etc.

ast/got they can rise due to muscle damage if horse is prone to tying up but in my case when my boys were rasied they put it done to he was very stressed of time they were taking blood!

My old mare also had high results, but Vet put it down to the fact that she had been lying down shortly before the blood test, and this can apparently give a high result.

CK or AST? CK goes up and down quite quickly and as others said can just be due to trigger before bloods taken. AST is more significant of muscle damage and takes longer to go back down ans is one that you would be more concerned with tying up - hence careful warm up and down and avoiding too high strach diet

Just out of interest why had you had bloods done?

Bloods done as couple of horses on yard coughing and eventing tomorrow so wanted to be sure she was all in order, usually have it done early season anyway as a comparison each year, she did have a horrid session monday, rather full on real muck sweat most unusual for her to sweat white sweat? and bloods done early wed so wondered if that may have been some of the reason for high count, anyway being extra carefull and syringed electrolytes tonight before tomorrow and have some to take with me to give hr after the XC

Also have checked diet etc
