My friend brought Ellie in for me yesterday as we were away for the day and she rang to tell me that she was really lame. She bedded her down for me and I went straight down this morning.

Poor Ellie was sooo lame. She wouldn't bear weight on her back leg at all and couldn't even shift her weight from one leg to the other. She was walking on the toe to

Her leg was like a balloon.

I rang the vet and he came and sedated her. Dug her foot out and there was a really nasty abscess

He has had to dig a huge chunk of her sole away to get it to burst. So now she is on box rest and poulticing. He said until New years eve but reading a previous post about it I think I will only wet poultice it tomorrow and then try dry for a couple of days.

It absolutley reeks and even though I have been bathed etc I can still smell it

dont worry it will heal quickly, mine had trouble early on in the year with soft soles, one front foot then the other, thought when i saw him standing in the field he had broken it!! invested in a poultice boot fab, can put horse out then, especially if the shoe comes off for poulticing.
