Just thought I'd update for anyone who was interested in seeing how the vet went today. He has his bloods taken to check his liver function and results should be back this afternoon. He was trotted up and the vet couldn't see anything obvious, he then flexion tested each of his legs and again everything seemed okay. He then felt his back which had quite good mobility but he did seem a little sore. He then asked to see him ridden as Elvis is so naughty on the lunge there is no point trying it, he just throws himself around and hoons about (this is something that improves when he's in proper work). I walked and trotted him on both reins, vet said he didn't look comfortable especially on the left rein (always been his worst rein anyway). He then asked to see him in canter, something I haven't done since he's been back in work. I managed to put my brave pants on and ask for canter, and as expected head went down and back came up but I managed to prevent any bucking, which is an achievement in itself. Again he didn't look comfortable on the left rein in particular. So vet has suggested a high dose bute/danillon trial, back shoes on again, maybe with a small wedge to help him sit his hinds better (he tends to stand with his hinds tucked underneath him) and see how it goes. Walk and trot work 6 days a week with a mixture of hacking and school work. Then if he becomes worse again once off the painkillers x-rays of his back will be done. So kind of good news as he doesn't think it's in his hinds and thinks potentially he needs to strengthen up. But we'll see.
And for anyone who's interested there hasn't really been any progress in regards to my step-brother and his cancer diagnosis. His doctors, nurses and surgeons are all meeting tomorrow to discuss the best plan of action, and hopefully this will be when we find out how far along his cancer is.
