I have this morning received an email from Redwings regarding the directions of the court ruling on April 4th.

The email is as follows:-

Hello Michelle

Sorry, but yes its true the Amersham group that we have in our care (including Esther), plus others that are in the care of the other organisations have been ordered to be returned. The miniatures and donkeys are to be returned to his home, as he claims they were his pets. The others are to be sent for public auction. The RSPCA are having a meeting today and of course we will be doing all we can to stop this happening. I will be in touch again as soon as I hear any more. Your help will be needed to show the feeling and power of the public voice.

We are all very emotional and devastated on many levels. Caring for them knowing the outcome is so very hard, they have started to get their own characters and really coming out of themselves.
Speak soon x

I have spoken to Redwings this morning and they have promised to get back to me as soon as all the meetings take place and advise of their plan of action.

Please keep us updated. I would love to know what I can do to help.

Presumably there is recourse for an appeal - I hope that if that is done quickly there can be a delay in returnin the animals to Gray, and sending the others to auction.

Another thought.

There is usually a fortnight in which the Judge will recieve reports after the verdict.

We could start a petition - or write to the judge directly.

Which I am planning to do.

What about a government petition, or would that take too long?

A petition to the judge is a good idea - I'll sign it.

AmyMay, do you have an address for the judge? I'll write too.

I'm looking for the name of the judge now - but can't find it.

The hearing was at Oxford Crown Court.

Will keep looking.

Ive just returned from a week away with work and read this email! I cannot believe that these animals are to be returned! He dosnt deserve to get anything back after the way those poor horses were treated!

I want to start an email petition to try and get this decision overturned! Has anyone done anything similar which I can also add my name to??

Just let me know how I can help, we cant let these poor souls go back to that place, it is just not fair on them.

Can someone post up a 'crib' letter that we can use as a base ofr our own? I would do it but I am supposed to be working hard today as it is quarter end so don't have the time to do a draft.

this needs a Sun/Mirror/Mail petition launched quickly

the thought of handing those horses back is sickening

crib letter for me as well please

judge has to be on another planet and that vet that gave evidence needs the horse side of his practice boycotted by all horse lovers

All I could think of - now on its way.....

With regard to the fate of the animals currently with various rescue centres having been seized from the premises in Amersham, I beg that they are not returned there or to the sale-rings. These horses and ponies are now enjoying the sort of treatment they are rightfully due and to hand them back to their miserable and inevitable fate, either at Spindles Farm or the auctions, is nothing short of inhuman.

They have had a taste kindness and respect it is the duty of we as higher beings ought to give – please do not extinguish any hope these unfortunate animals may have for a good life and humane death.

Rather they were put to sleep, now, at the centres where they feel safe and have learned to trust, than to allow their owner to take possession of them again.

I appreciate this small act of graciousness would not prevent the suffering of many hundreds of others as the problem lies in the endless supply of slaughter horses, but it will make a huge difference to these horses, ponies and donkeys. It might, in future, give the less-than-caring horse-meat dealers second thoughts before mistreating their ‘goods’, if the outcry and seizure of the ponies was not a waste of time.

On behalf of the many who care, yet are powerless to help, please re-consider your verdict.

Yours respectfully

(Me)

Im going to write to him aswell. I can't believe this, is animal cruelty in this country ever going to be taken seriously, where are the animal rights people when you need them.

I suspect working very hard behind the scenes to get this overturned.........

I have emailed the Sun and the Daily Mail.. any more ideas as to who to send this too? My letter below:

Please help us to overturn the decision. Rescued horses TO BE RETURNED!!

Every single human being with a heart was affected after hearing that 111 horses were rescued from appalling conditions in January 2008.

With over 31 animals being found dead and decaying under the feet of those left strong enough to be standing it was a heart wrenching situation, which quickly turned to absolute anger that a human being could subject any living animal to such horrendous conditions.

A further three animals which were far too weak to be saved had to be put to sleep and the scene.

I cannot imagine the pain and suffering that these animals have been subjected too, having been starved and kept in the most appalling conditions where they were covered in excrement, mud and living alongside other dead animals. I believe one mare was completely blind, and there were also a number of foals on the farm, so the experience would have been even more terrifying for these poor animals. Those who rescued them said that they were petrified and just kept there heads down eating from the moment they arrived into safety.

The reason for my letter is that Deputy District Judge Sandeep Kainth has granted this guilty family of animal killers the right to have 29 animals RETURNED to them as they were pets!

There is a huge community of people who have been totally destroyed by this decision after pulling together and helping these poor horses to live a much better life, one in which every animal, and indeed human being is deserving of.

To send these poor animals back to the same place where they were so horribly treated is a huge step backwards for all the caring charities and people involved in rescuing them. Is it not enough that these animals have been through so much already in their lives and deserve to be cared for without this happening again?

People who treat animals in such a way are usually punished with a ban blocking them from keeping animals in the future. All I ask is WHY in this case is such a horrible, horrible family allowed to receive back some of their animals after they have proved (On a HUGE scale) that they are completely incapable of looking after any equine animal.

Please could you highlight this judge’s decision and let’s hope that together we will be able to get it overturned before they return them to this family of killers.

Please also let me know if there is anything I can do to help. I know I am only a small voice, but I know of many people who agree with my opinions on this.

Kindest regards

<Me>

Cant we post this is the NEw lounge? Alot more people are located in there. I was wondering, If some one could make a letter, And then everyone that agress with it signs it?
Well done all of you for taking action. Ild love to do somthing but I doubt they'ld listen to a 13 Year old.

Every voice counts Nick regardless of age. And to be honest if a 13 year old can see the injustice in this decision and the judge can't then there is more seriously wrong with this country's justice system than I thought.

PS - you come across a lot older than 13

I think the papers really need to be made aware of the strength of feeling and to give it a lot more coverage. I only found out about it on Saturday when I happened to notice a tiny paragraph in the paper. It now seems to be really old news and gone right out of the public eye. But remember how much money was donated to Redwings in the first 24 hours before Operation Esther or anything. I bet the majority of those people haven't a clue about the latest developments and would be absolutely horrified if they knew.

3. In the light of Judge Kainth’s findings, the RSPCA, which claims to
apply the Code for Crown Prosecutors, will have to satisfy Sally Case,
Head of Prosecutions, that it has considered whether each of the
allegations stands “a reasonable prospect of success” and is “in the
public interest”.

With the emphasis being on this and is “in the public interest
