under the subject heading of Operation Esther I have emailed the following to my local newspapers:

I am writing to you to ask if xxxxx can do a story relating to the Horses Saved from Spindles Farm in Hyde Heath. The online community of the Horse and Hound Open Forum have started a movement we are calling Operation Esther, named after the two month old donkey foal rescued from this equine concentration camp. We are asking that:

1) People support the horse charities involved especially with financial donations or donations of rugs, blankets, equipment or veterinary supplies. We ask that people give up just one luxury - that bottle of wine you drink by the TV of an evening, one packet of cigarettes, that quick pint down the pub - anything, and send the money to the ILPH, Horse Trust or Redwings to help with the massive veterinary bills they are facing due to the actions of one man.

2)We are calling for a public inquiry into what went wrong, as is the BHS (British Horse Society)

3) We are asking people to broadcast and sign up to our petition on the Government website, which is being set up over the next few days to show their support for us.

4) We are asking for any changes to the law or procedures to be made to prevent this from ever happening again.

As a community we have organised large scale collection of equipment, feed and bedding in many areas of the UK and several of our members are loading this collection into their own lorries and distributing it to the charities over the next few days. We are working on other fund raising ideas including raffles and sponsored rides and other ways to highlight this to the general public. This is a tragedy of immense proportions and should never be allowed to happen again.

The horses that died must NOT have died in vain. They need to be remembered as the ones that stopped anything like this from ever happening again.

We would be grateful of any help from xxxxxx.

Many Thanks

sorry - i ripped a few bits off from peoples posts. I hope it ok. I'll let you know if I hear anything

Jacks_mum, ignore that comment from drjames.
We want to stay positive. Something positive has to come from this - and it is doing! Ignore it.

My point being that making things illegal does not stop them happening. Some people are not law-abiding, get used to it.

Oh that's ok then. We'll stand back and let this continue shall we? Cos it will whatever!

Of course there will still be cruelty but some of us can't just do nothing - thank god not everyone has your attitude.

I take your point.

And I say it is about time certain sectors of society stopped believing themselves to be above the law. We want to make a stand on this case and make our feelings known to the whole world if we can. Your comments, although fairly well grounded in fact, do not help us and - with all due respect - are not welcome. Please feel free to comment if you can be constructive and come up with other ideas to help with this.

(before you say this is a forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion, i know that but we are trying to acheive something here and I personally would rather not have negative comments made about a movement I firmly believe can help in getting the changes to the law etc that we all know need to be made, made)

Successive governments have passed laws on various topical subjects; handguns, dangerous dogs being recent examples. Murder being a long standing example. The problem in this country is not lack of laws, but lack of enforcement of existing laws and lack of effective punishment for these laws. My understanding is that this man in from Amersham had been convicted on previous occasions for related offences, but was still allowed to carry on and offend. The problem is not lack of laws here, but lack of enforcement and punishment (witness repeat murderers) of existing offences.

So get on to your MP and voice your anger at this. Your MP works for you, he/she needs to know how you feel about this. Doing nothing about it won't help anything.

which , if you read other posts or even what I have written above, is a part of what we are calling for -

We are asking for any changes to the law or procedures to be made to prevent this from ever happening again.

Whoever my MP is (no idea), I am sure that they couldn't give a sh!t about my opinion on any matter. They only ever come around when there is an election on (or at least their representatives) and they all have their nose in the trough for the remaining 4 years.

As I have mentioned before - log onto www.writetothem.com all you need to do is put in your postcode and it will tell you who your local MP is , your Euro MP etc. Then use the email link and your MP has to read it. They should also reply. I have written to my local MP several times and he always replies by post. I think it is important to do something if you feel strongly about something. I don't know if it makes an awful lot of difference but I know he has risen a few things I have said in the Houses of Parliament. I continue to hope that one day some difference will be made - I know it definitely won't if nobody does or says anything.
Remember these MPs are paid a lot of money from YOUR tax. They work for you - get them doing the job they are paid for!

I agree that they are paid way too much and would happily abolish the lot of them, but this is the fundamental problem with representative democracy - once they are in, they can do what they like for 4 years, whilst baring their @rses at us poor tax-paying suckers.

i feel the topic has gone slightly off the OP... maybe start a new thread drjames stating your opinions and people can reply there.

Jacks Mum, i think this is a very clear and concise email... top marks, its great.

well done jacks mum, do you know reading your thread made me all emotional again! the reading down i got really peed off, how dare you Drjames, come on to somebodys thread and basically say there is no hope,if your children got murdered, the the villan left to roam your area.!!! how would you feel

because thats what is likly to happen to theses horses, if nobody does nothing one day innocent lives will once again be lost, being left to starve and rot.... a very morbid painful way to go. why the hell when we have something so high profile, should us thousands of people that care not have a dam good go at getting things changed??

*stomps of to calm down and start day again!*

Thank you for sticking up for me and what we all trying to accomplish here but I think wishing drjames children be murdered is a little bit OTT...

He has his opinion and is fully entitled to it, I just wish he had voiced it somewhere else really.

sorry i wasnt wishing, it was ment to be a point, if a person was murdered, wed all want the villan found and put away, not left to wander the streets... why should horses be different... drjames i do not wish your children dead!

feelings are running high at the moment - best not to p!ss off one of our own!

I have copied and pasted the very well-worded letter above to my local paper.

Has anyone been in touch with Jeremy Vine on BBC2? I have been in hospital for the past two days so have missed his programmes. Was there any mention, does anyone know? If not, it would be a good idea to contact him and make ourselves available to phone in when it is on.

Anyone here want to take it on? I'd offer but I'm not very good at putting my point across. It needs someone with all the facts before them who can really open the eyes (and ears) of the many listeners who so happily put money in the RSPCA collection boxes. No doubt Drjames will be around to put his/her oar in - still, I suppose it needs a mumpty to stir things up!

If you can PM Box of Frogs regarding Jeremy Vine, I will put her forward as she is fantastic at getting her point across (I know her personally).

Regarding Drjames, this is not like him. I have a great deal of respect for him and tbh he is allowed to put his point across. Im sure his intentions are better than they came across.
