I cried in front of my vet today....I know VERY embarrassing! My poor Lily is on her third treatment of five for sarcoids and is just so swollen I feel like I'm really hurting her. :( The vet was very understanding and said I was, of course, doing the right thing and that everything always looks worse before it gets better. Oh well only two more treatments to go and then, hopefully, everything will start to look a bit better...:(.

I hope she won't hate me at the end of all this!!

hang on in there! sarcoids take a long time! you are doing the right thing. could show you some horrendous pics but i a computer idiot so cant load them! i hope your vet has left you some bute to help with the swelling! always looks worse than it actually is!

horrible horrible sarcoids. I'm sure she understands you aren't trying to hurt her and that you're doing it for her own good in the long run don't worry. I think, without wanting to sound like a total weirdo hippy, that sometimes they can tell. Good luck with the rest of her treatments.

O and I cry infront of the vet all the time don't worry about that. I'm sure they're used to it!

If it's the Liverpool cream... yes, it can be really upsetting when the treatment requires a prolonged course of applications. Mine went through this in December; 5 treatments at 3 day intervals.

Mine had a variety of sarcoids (now all now gone!); some around her teats and inside her back legs, and others tucked right inside her bum-cheeks (sorry :o). Those ones were really hard to treat because of the rubbing as she moved after the cream had been applied. We had to use lots of Vasoline on the 'other side'!

The applications certainly seemed to become more uncomfortable as the treatments progressed and by treatment 3 she was anticipating the discomfort and kicking up a fuss (literally!); but to be honest, I think mine definitely viewed the vet as the Bad Guy - not me, who was holding her and trying to placate her at her head end.

My vet gave me some painkillers to give mine following the later applications and said the treated sarccoids would actually become more swollen and painful AFTER the whole course of treatment had finished. He was right, my filly's belly swelled with a large oedema a few days after after the last application and lasted for about a week. But she coped okay (as long as I left the area well alone!) and soon felt better. The bigger sarccoids dropped off within a month and the smaller ones followed a couple of months later.

Do stick with it and hopefully the results will be as successful as mine were. I'm 100% sure your horse won't bear you any grudge :)

Thank you everyone. It is Liverpool cream that the vet is using but it's very encouraging to hear other people's experiences. I'm pleased that everyone's horses seem to have recovered so well. Hopefully it will be the same for me and Lily. :)

Can't advise on the sarcoid treatment myself, sorry. But just want to say one thing - there's absolutely no need to be embarrassed about crying in front of your vet. Believe me, they are more than used to it. You're not the first, you definitely won't be the last. I've done it myself. There is absolutely nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about.

Fingers crossed for a brilliant recovery for Lily.

Thank you Faro. :) Vet called me this morning to check on the pony (and me I think!!). I did re-live the moment somewhat, but she was very, very supportive and made me feel much better. Still blushing though when I think of it...lol

Second that :) I've bawled my eyes out in front of my vet :o Especially the night I found out my beloved young horse was a write off, and I wouldn't get to ride her again. They are most than used to it, and a good vet will understand just how much you care for your horse. Don't worry about it at all, and best of luck with horse getting better :) xx

Sorry to hear about your poor neddie but keep your pecker up and hopefully it'll pay off in dividends when they are all gone.

I to have blubbed in front of the vet on many many occasions, in fact i sat blubbering in the vets surgery waiting room at the end of last year while waiting for my dog who was having life saving surgery, thank goodness he survived, I didnt even notice all the people around me.
