Is anyone going to this - I've heard that it is a really nice early season warm up as the XC isn't timed and they have Novice and Open classes and a lovely chance to ride round Osberton- Any advice on what the courses are like??

I usually do it but will be working this year. I do find that there is a bit of a gap between classes - the novice is quite tiddly but I'd prefer to do the open on a horse who'd had a BE Nov run or was close to that standard. XC courses are lovely, SJing time can be tight (though I suspect the year that I jumped round for one down and got a zillion time faults they may have mismeasured it!). From memory I'd enter ASAP as it's mega popular and they take entries in order of entering.

Good luck. I'll be jealous!

When do the entries open and close? Do you think the Novice is about BE90?

Just wondering if I could use it as my BE90 run and then start at Oasby at BE100, I'm in no rush to step up (and might even go back down to BE90 after Oasby for a couple) but I liked the course at Oasby and would prefer it over the following events I have planned as her first BE100.
Argh, decisions decisions!!

The novice is advertised as 95cms, but I find it a good warm up for a season of BE90. The xc isn't timed, but you may take a watch and time for prep for the season ahead. The open class is a fair bit bigger!

I think the entries opened at the start of this month, and close when it's full (usually towards the end of the month I think)

I'm looking forward to it already-spring must be round the corner!!

I think we have a couple of new fences this year - there seems to have been a bench appear since I left for uni :) Don't know that much yet, but you won't have such beautifully creoseted fences this year because I won't be about to do them :p I would imagine that, unless we get loads of rain, the ground will be better than last year - it's held up well from the hunt yesterday!

I think if you're a member of EMDG there is a restricted Novice section with the SJ at 85 or an open Novice section with SJ at up to 95 - so lots of options- then there are the non EMDG Novice and Open classes. I think they've got a few new fences in the XC this year - Mark does like to ring the changes from what I've heard! The schedule is on the EMDG website
