Last Sunday we had to take our beagle bitch Candy to the emergency vets (photo in siggy). She is twelve and a half and was 'rescued' by other half as was from a pack of foot beagles as she was too small for them.

She is overweight and has major issues with allergic rhinnitis (cause unknown) which cause her to sneeze/reverse sneeze a lot of the time, but she's on drugs and as its not a painful illness and she runs like a pup and eats and plays we have let her be.

Last Sunday partner noticed she was lame on off hind. Couldn't see anything wrong with her pad/claws, etc. She went out for a wee and my partner saw her lying in the grass collapsed, so he picked her up but every time he touched any part of her body she was screaming in pain. He managed to pick her up and plonked her on the bed, she was very cold and was shivering and looking very distressed, again any move to move her resulted in pain.

He rang the vet (it was Sunday evening) and the vet saw us straight away. In reception the vet said put her on the floor so we did and she couldn't move very much, front end as well as back, very reluctant to walk. Vet checked her thoroughly and gave her a course of pain killers and two injections (one of pain killer). Vet said that she thought her hip was dislocated but couldn't really tell due to her padding around her back! Pain killer would take an hour to kick in. Fifteen mins later we went to leave. Vet said put her on floor and said to see if she could walk.

Well she virtually trotted across reception, if she was barely 1/10th lame that was it, considering 15 mins before she couldn't move hardly with hopping around. How much was drama, how much was reluctance to move from reception into vets room (scared I am guessing) and how much was happiness to 'escape' from reception to the car park I am not sure.

She has been fine every since, and last night was playing with me and partner in gentle rough and tumble and acting like a puppy again, growling like crazy and 'pretending' to bite our chins!
