Our beautiful English Setter dog Louis was unwell from really being a puppy. He always had an 'off' stomach and bowel and I took him to his vet numerous times. After a while, it was decided that his vet would refer him to a specialist veterinary Centre where they had all the equipment. We took him and when the doctor saw him, she said she thought it was Inflammatory bowel disease but the tests would show for sure. He was admitted to the hospital for two days and the tests came back as positive...he had the bowel disease. She suggested special food and there was a lot of things that he couldn't have such as chicken and beef but he could have fish. This, along with medication, seemed to make a difference for around two weeks. Then on the 24th September he suddenly went downhill and we took him straight back to the hospital as an emergency where they admitted him again. On the 25th, Monday, the doctor phoned me and told me that he had suddenly gone much worse and we had to make the terrible decision to put him to sleep. He was just so beautiful and we are truly devastated. He was just 16 months old and we are heartbroken at his loss.

Hi. Louis was a sweetheart and loved everyone. He was a tri coloured setter and was very beautiful. Its almost killed us at his loss and he was way too young to go as he did. We still cannot believe that he's gone and we can't move his toys or beds as we are devastated and miss him just SO much.

It's always hard to lose a beloved dog but to lose one so young must be harder still. I am so sorry for your loss. RIP Louis

I’m so sorry. It feels very unfair to lose a youngster. Have you considered contacting the breeder to see if any other puppies were affected? I let my breeder know about an issue with one of mine, it seemed the right thing to do.

Thank you for your wishes. Yes it's a terrible time and he wasn't more than a baby

I did contact the breeder but nothing much was forthcoming I'm afraid
Sorry for your lose. I think it’s unusual for a registered breeder not to be interested in the dogs they’v e bred or what happens to them. Are you in the UK? There seem to be more Setters in Europe than in the UK. There are a number of Setter groups on FB where you might be able to get more support and advice.

Hi yes I'm in the UK and he was the first English I had owned. I have had an Irish, three Gordon setters and Louis and I have never had a problem like this. But thank you for your thoughts...its much appreciated x
