It depends a lot of where you're moving to, personal circumstances (it's generally not a cheap undertaking), the individual horse etc. But yes, horses fly around the world all the time

We desperately wanted to bring our lad to Bulgaria with us, but he was not rideable by us and it seemed selfish to bring him to a hot country where he would have no immunity to the local diseases. There is a high concentration of equines belonging to the villagers and Gypsies, most of who live tethered by one leg on common land, closed fields being a rarity. So I would say it depends where you are moving to and your horse.

We were lucky that a friend has taken our lovely lad, but if push came to shove we would have brought him out. Miss him badly.

I'm in a similar situation so will watch this thread with interest. I'm desperate to bring my two horses with me but it seems a very daunting process. Difficult to know where to start.

There is also an overseas part on this forum, where you may ask too.
I did this, but would agree with the point about resistance to local health issues,
Where are you going to, I would take into account the likely weather extremes,
Here , it is said, it can take a year for the horse to acclimatise fully, and facilities we take for granted in the uk, may not be the same elsewhere.
All the best whatever you decide.

I have just emigrated back to the UK with my horse - I have an on-going thread on here, if you search "Rico's big adventure" it will come up and will give you a fair idea on what its like :)

I moved from the US to the UK with my horse in September 2006.

I suppose she has certain quirks which seem to be related to being a Colorado horse.

She does not do DIY-style barns. Most boarding stables in the US work like full livery yards here -- all the horses at the yard are turned out, brought in, and fed at the same time. When she discovered the UK DIY yard where every horse is on a different routine according to its owner's schedule, she couldn't deal and became the world's most neurotic fencewalker until I moved to a yard which worked more like a US one.

She hates the weather. Scottish horizontal rain is not amusing. She refuses to work in it.

I would substitute "North American" for "Colorado".

Tbh, even after years I still struggle with DIY yards, let alone the horse!
