Emma tried to corrupt a judge today!

I asked a couple of people over to give me some advice about Emma re showing and feeding, one of whom was a judge, and both VERY experienced, and Emma mugged them!

Several times!!!!!!

She was just telling her how much she loved her! Cue climb on lap and lick the face... At least the judge would know she had a good temperament if she was to judge her!

Good news is they gave me good advice re feeding (the main reason for asking them to come) I am not feeding her enough on some days which is what I thought tbh. So going to try a bit more food to see if she thickens out, sleeps more and steals less. Just a bit cautious about overfeeding after the growth rate probs I had with Tojo. It is hard to get the balance right with Mastiffs. You dont want them too heavy when they are growing but equally you want them to have enough nutrients to grow well but not too fast.

They both thought she was worth definitely worth showing in the future and said she was a lovely dog. Well they would say that as they are Mastiff lovers! They picked out a minor fault with her eye which sometimes shows.

Tojo was his normal neurotic self but did half make friends. Until they got up to go and then he barked again. He is getting so much better though.

They laughed when I told them about the face painting!



Not sure why I am sharing this really! Just wanted to share it with dog lovers!

These people are high up in the Mastiff world, not the highest, but were really lovely, encouraging and helpful

Make a note of her name for when she is judging! Glad they gave you lots of advice and encouragement, its good when breeders go out of their way to help newcomers to the breed, I think the majority are happy to do this but there are always those who think they are so much better than pet owners.

One of them doesnt breed anymore. Not sure about the other, tbh. Hence I think they were really happy to advise and encourage. Of course they couldnt point out all the faults and say Emma was rubbish as that would be unprofessional. Not that it would bother me what faults Emma had tbh as she is just a lovely dog but I like to know as I want to learn. So long as she is sound physically and temperament wise I am happy.

She certainly has a lot of character!

Well some breeders would probably be happy to point out the faults in someone elses breeding. However the fact they encouraged you to show her says to me she is worth showing. If I have people approach and ask if its worth showing their dog I always try and tell them tactfully if its not. Better to come from me than waste their time and money to be placed last at a show (although it could always be a rubbish judge that day, always was if I was placed down the line ).

Maybe they were just being polite as Tojo had them cornered LOL!
They suggested I took her to the Breed show in August for a look about. But tbh I would rather leave her at home as it is a 2 hour journey and could be hot. I will probably go without her though as it is in the holidays. I have never been to a proper dog show before.

The judge walked over to examine her, and had just commented on what a lovely dog she is....annnddd she jumped up to kiss him and busted his nose

Two hours Dozzie? Wait til you get hooked, then eight hours in a car, even if you run the risk of coming home empty handed, is nothing - I know someone planning to drive for five days to a show in October

A judge once placed the loaf-eater second behind a bitch owned by the man who had driven him to and from the ferry and was putting him up for the night (would you even have the front to show under a judge you were accommodating?!) and then asked if he could buy our bitch. My Mum told him to buy the bitch he had placed first, if he liked her so much
