The obvious thing with EMS Is to have them on hay but current old horse with EMS also has a dust allergy so hay has to be wetted which is a pain! Also he has had ulcers so feeding adlib hay in a bale in the field is best for that but then he gets a cough almost straight away unless it rains non stop ( which sometimes is does ?) so thinking about getting a bale of haylage instead, Anyone else feed haylage to EMS horses? (will change back to hay in summer). He's not overweight, and Is on medication for EMS, also worried it might make ridden NF ponies more fizzy than he is already. Thanks.

I feed haylage to my 15.1h.h. EMS horse. She's out during the day with a muzzle on and comes in to a 3-4kg net at night. On my vets' instructions, I soak it for 1 hour min and then rinse it with clean water. Hope this helps you.

I work in rehab and almost all of my EMS clients get haylage, just make sure you get it analysed so you know what you're feeding exactly.

Yes my EMS horse gets haylage daily. I use Timothy haylage which is lower in sugar. i think you need to avoid ryegrass haylage, but most manufacturers put typical analysis on their websites. I also have em haylage lite, but they prefer the Timothy.
