Pony has very senstive skin and whenever he changes his coat his fur rubs off round his girth area. He hasn't got a gall, just little or no fur and if you put a girth on him for any length of time it can get a bit pink. So obviously mostly riding him bareback at the moment and always whenever we do put a saddle on him we are very careful and have tried various things prolite girth sleeve, string girth, wintec, sheepskin sleeve etc etc. varying things from day to day so that nothing rubs him in the same place reducing the hair loss.

From experience it will settle down when his new coat comes through. What's the best stuff to encourage it to grow?

rub in cornucresin. if hes got real thin skin can you harden it up with stuff - thought you could but the stuff im thinking of sounds bit odd so not sure will see if anyone else knows

Best stuff to encourage good hair growth is what goes in his mouth! Anything that's also good for hoof horn will help and Veteran Chaff which is high fibre (oat straw) but lightly coated with oil has given my 22yr old a coat so shiny you can see your face in it.

Thanks - but his coat is lovely - very shiney and silky. Its just that when he is changing his coat where his girth touches him it rubs off faster than it grows through. I guess we will just have to wait. :-)
