Hey guys

I'm looking for an everyday bridle so that I can keep my fancy leather one for good.

I'm not sure what it's called that i'm looking for but it's basically a headcollar that you can convert into a bridle by clipping the bit on (and a browband and noseband I suppose). I know you can get them in either webbing (machine washable) or a material that you can just dunk in a bucket of water to wash.

I'm being a bit vague but i'm sure the endurance folk will know what i'm wittering on about :)

Any ideas?

Also try www.davewilsonequestrian.com - they've got them there.

Libby's (or Polypads as they are now) do them I think, but personally I'd avoid as they WILL persist in using a metal for the buckles which rusts: total waste of money IMO.

The other thing you could look for (I got mine on e-bay) is the "Barefoot Cedar" bridle which will convert very nicely to a bitless bridle and/or standard bitted bridle, and then you can just unclip the bit part of it and hey presto you've got a headcollar. Its made of leather, but I love mine to bits and don't know how I managed without it.

The only snag with the synthetic endurance bridle/headcollars is just that, that they are, um, well, synthetic, and won't soften up with use, whereas my Barefoot Cedar has done.

The thing I DO like about the synthetic ones however is the reins!!!

I have a Zilco from Dave Wilson, the buckles are brass and the reins are great as they use parrot clips. You can get loads of colours. It takes a few seconds to remove the bridle and you are left with a head-collar with brow-band.
Reins are rubbered, feel no difference to leather, but a tad wide for tiny hands.
Warm soapy water, but they don't get very dirty.

See if you can get a Cottage Craft webbing bridle on e bay, as they are no longer made.
Cheap and cheerful, very hard wearing, converts in an instant, I swear by them,
Now if anyone has such a gem in Cob size hanging around,in purple or black, please pm me!!

I really love rope reins (sold by Performance Equestrian and by Raddery). Really comfy in my hands (don't like bulky reins), none slip and you can use them as a dog lead when you have two dogs ;)
