Me and my 5 year old cob completed our first pleasure endurance ride yesterday. apart from aching today both had a brill time. I love my saddle but my stirrups and leathers are going to have to be chnaged does anyone know where i can get a set of endurance/western stirrups and leathers that isnt going to cost me a fortune
thanks :)

I got my stirrups from Performance Equestrian- they're on-line and on ebay (I think), they weren't cheap, but are worth every penny in my oppinon. I did my first pleasure ride last year in normal stirrups and leathers, and found they just didn't give my legs the support they needed. Now I have soft tread stirrups with cages and they're fab, so much easier on the feet and legs. as for the stirrup leathers, I got myself a pair of Wintec webbers, cheap but does the job nicely.
Enjoy your future rides- they're addictive!

Hi Adele,

Yep, Ruth is right - go for the Webbers type stirrup leathers which are only single thickness. Wintec Webbers are the synthetic ones, Bates Webbers are the leather ones - there are other brands too - sometimes they are referred to as T-bar leathers, and sometimes dressage leathers (but be careful here - because I've seen both single and double thickness dressage leathers).

And I endorse Ruth's recommendation of getting SoftTread Stirrups from Performance Equestrian (they also do E-Z ride stirrups as well, as funny enough I was looking at them at the Performance Equestrian trade stand yesterday). Either type are good for longer distances - they come with or without cages, because some people don't need/don't like the feel of cages.

Of course, you could always keep an eye out for second hand on E-bay or Preloved - but 2nd hand endurance stirrups do tend to be snapped up very quickly!

Which ride were you at Adele? Was it Kings Forest near Bury St. Edmunds?

Glad you enjoyed it anyway - and just want to say that cobs CAN do endurance - you don't necessarily need an Arab! I hope you're successful in finding some more confortable stirrups and leathers and that you go on to enjoy many more endurance rides (and believe me, the more you do the less you'll ache - (except each time you do your first ride at an ever bigger distance, then, of course, the aching starts all over again :-). It's worth it though!
