I Have a Welsh cob who is so laid back and so safe to ride because in her eyes nothing is a problem and i wouldnt change her for the world. BUT i'd like to give her something for a little energy, shes not overweight and has just has her yearly vet check and blood tested and alls OK. Ive tried her on oats and competition mixes but they dont seem to work. I was going to try spillers instant response or energest 16, so was wondering if anyone has tried any of these and if they worked for you.

energest 16 my horse wouldn't eat, litterally i couldn't get it down her to tell if it worked!! she ate the first few meals, then went totally off it! spillers instant response was ok, got some response to that and she did eat it, could also look at alan and page competition extra, probably had more effect with that feed than the others, alan and page also do power and performance which is a high energy but low starch feed, which i've heard good results from. You could also add tiger oats or if all else fails look at redcell/propell (rocket fuel!)

Why not try adding oil to her feed. It gives non-heating energy and is a great diet for a horse. It needs to be palatable and in my view vegan!! Corn oil and linseed are palatable - I have had horses turn their noses up at Soya but it the cheapest option.

Start with a few splodges and work up to a cupful - you should stay within 8% of your horses total calorie intake or where your horse is giving you the response you want.

Hi i am in the same boat, if you find something that works please tell me, I have used redcell that didnt work he is on oil now thats not working but his coat looks fab! he has had staypower, naf energy, I have been trying different feeds for 2 years now, He is only like it in the summer.

Is he out 24/7 in the summer and not in winter? Try stabling him over night for a few nights and see if his energy levels pick up. known this to be a cure for a few horses!!!

Topspec turbo = rocket fuel for cobs!:D

Agree! Haven't used it myself but have heard some good things about it, Particularly from people who have fed it on the morning of a competition to give their horse more of a boost but without any added silliness. According to the product information it has 35% more digestible energy per kg than quality oats.

Spillers Instant Response made no difference to my mare who was on it for 18 months, neither did oats.

NAF EnerG supplement working brilliantly on her, within a week she was so much more responsive and fun to ride and her dressage scores improved too as a result.

Our mare is so laid back it is untrue. She is currently on Spillers Instant Response mix and is much improved. However, she is also slow off of the leg, which we have been working on too. Daughter had a lesson about 2 weeks after introducing the feed and our instructor said it is the best she has ever seen her go, and inproved her dressage score in eventing by 6% (3rd to bottom after dressage, to just above middle of the class) in the space of 3 weeks. She refused to eat the Naff Energy, and Red Cell made no difference! But as I say, it could be the work getting her sharper off the leg, or a combination of the 2! We struggle to get her to eat much quantity of feed, and have just seen that D&H do a competiton concentrate, where the recommended feed amounts are about half of the Spillers instant response, so have just bought that to try.

Good luck!
