Energizer recommendations please...

Hi all,

I already have an energizer on my field, not very powerful I'm guessing as the 2 horses keep going through it. I'm going to upgrade to a more powerful one, but am not sure what to buy...

Any thoughts on which one, or indeed a different brand that you think would be better than either of these?

have you checked that it is not touching any thing it shouldn`t and is all insulated.also have you got a proper earth stake that is in the ground far enough.a line tester is a handy thing to have too.
 
i would suggest a hotline hobby, having run these for years and years i can assure you they are reliable, give a good jolt too!!
 
I have the 250 version of the first one, and it keeps my horse in line!!!! Gives off such a zap that merlin doesnt even want to come through the gate when its clicking!!!!

Had it a few years and still going strong.... just needed a bit of a tweak this winter but now working again!!
 
I looked all over the web for a good powerful energiser & I decided on the Hotline Falcon. It will power up to 18k (12 miles) of fencing & will kick out between 4000 & 5000v through the fence rope/tape. With that amount of power you can run several strands around a paddock & have them all powered.

This is a link to the cheapest place for them, you'll find they are as cheap as the CP500 you have been looking at however you will need a leisure battery to power it. There are 2 power settings on them aswell.

4-5000 is only just adequate, any vegetation and then it drops below the required for proper control, the higher voltage bridges any insulation the animal has - skin, hair, blanket etc. and does not impact on the shock level, that is determined by the amperage the energiser runs at and the length of the pulse - the joule rating. The higher that is the more fence it will run but more dangerous. That is why new units are going to be limited to 6 joules in future.

Looking at the specs the A2 runs at a higher voltage than the 500 but has no back up battery. - do you need it. Fences are normally a deterrent for a few days after they are switched off.
