Sorry, life is a bit stressy at the moment and my mind is a blank

Horse diagnosed with sub clinical laminitis about a month ago and has responded well to his new regime.

At the moment he is on no turnout as we are introducing one thing back at a time, but is ridden in the morning and either lunged/walked in hand or turned out in the school in the afternoon.
Hay is soaked (meadow) and he is fed a balancer, mag ox, salt with speed beet, zero chop and pink mash as carriers.
Not surprisingly his energy levels have dropped with less sugar and we have an important (to us!) competition in three weeks.

So - what can I feed for energy that is barefoot/laminitic friendly?

Instant oomph is going to be hard to come by with out carbs, but fats and oils will give more calories for a slow release energy source which should hopefully do the trick.

Depends if you're looking for straights or complete feeds and what your total desired combined starch+sugar limit is, but fortunately in recent years there's been more recognition that not all laminitics are rolly polly ponies!

Micronised linseed is my go to for everything. Perfect for top dressing if you're happy with the rest of his diet as it is.

Complete feeds that might be worth considering, spillers senior supermash is 11mj/kg with 10.5% combined starch+sugar and d&h cushcare is 13.5mj/kg with 10.4% combined s+s.
Ignore the veteran labels I know quite a few young tbs that do really well on cushcare because it keeps the calories up without the sugar rush!

A slightly more conservative option would be just to increase the speedi beet or swap it for fibre beet which is a little bit more energy dense with the same s+s levels. You can feed quite a lot of both and using it as a partial hay replacer can keep the same fibre intake but with nearly double the calories of the equivalent quantity of hay.

I'm not sure what I'm looking for - he's just gone flat and lost his pizzaz

The pea protein looks interesting and I'd forgotten about oil.

I guess it's going to be trial and error

Thank you for your thoughts
