My poor boy is on box rest due to him being an idiot and also compounding the mechnical laminitis with a strained check ligament so he can't even be walked out in hand at the moment

He is being very good with box rest and doesn't get stressy about it but I would like to make it as pleasant a time as possible for him. He isn't on a diet (not to lose any more weight as per the vet) so he does have a good supply of soaked hay but his favorite things like swedes and it seems all stable boredom breakers are just sugar or made with grains so I came up with the ides of getting him natural things from the hedgerow which they would normally eat

We have been feeding him wilted nettle and dandelions as he sought these out when he was allowed to be walked in-hand he also went for the bramble leaves.

I thought I could cut him some bramble branches and hang them in his stable but are these ok for laminitics? Any other hedgerow plants I could get for him and put in his stable to keep him amused. Would need to be low sugar obviously.

I thought this was a great idea but am surprised that I have not been able to find anything on-line that indicates anyone else has done this for horses on box rest...

Hawthorn leaves/berries are beneficial and so are cleavers - the sticky buds or goosegrass stuff. Willow branches or leaves might be useful too as they contain salicylic acid which is pain relieving.
