Hi all,

I bought a new horsey last October and am now on the look-out for a dressage saddle. We'll be competing initially at the dizzy heights of Intro level so I'm not really wanting to spend too much money! We have a saddle fitter coming out in 3 weeks and I've requested to see a Wintec Isabell as I've heard some good things, but if that doesn't fit I'll want a leather saddle rather than a synthetic. Her GP is a Kent & Masters, medium wide, high withers and she's a (skinny) TB x WB.

Any ideas on a good leather entry level dressage saddle?

you dont need to have a dressage saddle to do dressage at any level really

The Ideal Jessica is a nice started type saddle its qtill got quite an open seat and a slimmer block so you dont get foreced to ride too long or pinned in before you are ready as a more stylised saddle would do, the kent and master dressage saddles are also similar with quite roomy seats and you can mvoe the knee blocks as well as get bigger one smade if you need to ride shorter so need more room in the front of the saddle

As Smith and Wave said, you don't need a dressage saddle to do the lower levels of dressage although it can help.

I use Wintec Isabell and Ideal Jessica on my dressage horses.

thorowgood are nice the t6 doesnt look like synthetic.

I have a jessica that i might be selling after this weekend, if you are intersted PM me.

I've owned an Isabell Werth saddle and a Jessica saddle and I have to say I prefer riding the in Isabel. I found it so easy to sit correctly in it and I loved the deep seat. Just a shame my horse wasn't so keen.

Thanks for your help peeps.

I know I don't need a dressage saddle, but I've heard so many positive things about how they might help my seat and legs and I really need all the help that I can get! Plus, OH has offered to pay :D

I love my Wintec Isabell but be warned, the new model is as near as damn it £1000 so not a cheap option any more. I got mine from Equestrian Clearance about 18 months ago for around £550 and I think you can still get that older model on their website for around the same money. I then had mine fitted by my saddler for me. Mine is the brown one and it looks absolutely stunning on my chestnut.

Did you think of looking into getting her a Kent and Masters dressage saddle too :D You can often find them second hand and because of the adjustability it might work for you.

Try Saddlesdirect - she has lots 2nd hand and will post for you to try.
My mum has a Derby House Kentucky on her retired Dressage horse, and you can pick these up very reasonably - her old trainer commented on how comfortable it was years ago. Albions, & Jessica are also good.
She's also got a rolls royce ' Paul Fielder International' for her competition horse, having changed from a Sue Carson Harmony - fab.

If the Kent & Masters is a good fit, then the Thorowgood (T4 - traditional synthetic look, T6 = leather-look synthetic) would be a good bet as they are part of the same company and made on the same trees/gullet systems etc.

I have a K&M jump saddle and a Thorowgood T4 DR. :)
