The article itself is over 2 years old and quoting studies 3+ years old so this is not a new thing. I must admit reading it I was slightly surprised that this was not already a commonly known issue affecting older veterans - but then I looked at the date and released it probably was new - or at least newer - when it was written. None the less a relevant issue for those caring for the much older horse.

I must admit I had never heard of it before, and I have had veterans for several years now
 
We've had 2 on our yard with this - both aged well over 30 though. I wonder if it is becoming more prevalent because we are so much better at keeping them fit and well into their very old age. When I started riding a pony over 25 was pretty unusual. We have one nearing 40 on yard at the moment!
