My 20 year old tb has had mud fever type scabs for the past two summers, vet looked at him & thinks it’s probably Leucocytoclastic vasculitis. As it’s quite minor & only affects one of his pasterns & it’s not a huge area, it’s just above the coronet band. The vet thinks it’s best to just keep doing what seems to work which is using the Silver Whinny Sox.
Despite the fact that we’ve gone through the past two winters since the scabs arrived with very little problems, this winter hasn’t been so easy due to to how wet the fields are.
Does anyone else have experience of this condition? If so, what do you find works through the winter? He’s currently stabled at night & as a fair weather Tb he is currently refusing to go out in the field at the mo (although did manage an hour & a half before coming to the gate today ??). The silver whinny Sox are great & they can be used out in muddy conditions which I have been doing with a pe turnout boot over the top, but due to the fact that I’m trying to protect the skin above the coronet the sock & boot aren’t able to keep the water & mud off of this area.
Any help much appreciated.
