Posted the link on the existing thread, but for those who do not want to wade through umpteen pages, the link is:

http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/57690

Have a look; if you agree please sign it and circulate the link to your friends etc. (I don't do Facebook and am a novice Twitterer, so if people can make it "go viral" through their accounts it would be great!). With luck, we might end up with both riders and cyclists being safer and happier.

Thanks

Signed - some of the cyclists/groups here trying out the Tour de France route for next year are barmy with the risks they take, and a real danger to themselves and other road users. (Some are fine)

Came across a race along a heavily used dual carriage way in thick fog and rain. No not of the cyclists was wearing high viz and visibility was dire. It was the scariest 9 miles I've ever driven in my life. The fact that the lorries and cars managed to avoid a major crash, was testament to the care of the motorists faced with people who had such a reckless attitude to road safety.

I've signed the petition because the races should have warning signs up on affected routes prior and during the events.

Unfortunately there is no "vote against" option. It would be easy to circumvent though as there would just be several completely separate events, on the same route, staggered starts, each with 99 entrants.

Very strange this. The whole point of the exercise is for the benefit of the cyclists as much as for anyone else. Some people are just plain paranoid.

I agree Tiddlypom - this is very strange, and childish. Sadly, once you've been squished it is too late to start thinking clearly.

Relatively simple to put the negative view point; do you have a suggestion that would improve it? Not suggesting that it should be started all over again, but constructive feedback would be really helpful.

Signed in at 84. How many do you need for it to go any further? thousands?
Thanks. To force a Parliamentary debate, it would need 100,000, or about 1 in 50 of the horse riding community. Seems almost impossible at this stage, but everything has to start somewhere. The more that people share it on FB and Twitter, the better and if we can tap into the farming community we will find some useful allies. Other plan of campaign is to contact as many Parish Councils as possible in the areas that have been affected; none of my colleagues on ours rides, but they are all going to sign and pass on to friends. Keep the faith, we will get there!

It's very early days. I'm hoping that student son will share it via Facebook and Twitter. I'm not too sure whether he's actually a member of his uni cycling club or not (he was going to join if he didn't make the rowing team but he did get in the team!)
Once it gets shared out a few times, hopefully it will get legs of its own and go viral- we can but hope!

Just to clarify - getting 100,000 signatures (the requisite number for any possible results) doesn't force a debate in parliament. It means the petition's subject becomes eligible for debate in parliament and will be considered for such.
