Can anyone tell me if this diet is likely to make a horse put on weight - I am contemplating trying it on my cob who has back/hind limb issues but am concerned about his weight - will be ok in the summer as I can exercise him more, but am a bit limited for time in the winter... Any help much appreciated.

My boy hasn't had any issues with his weight and has been on the diet for 12 months now. Good time of year to swap so go for it and see how it works.

If you are still sticking with it in the spring then just keep your eyes on the weight and consider using a muzzle if needed.

Some advice on starting though.....increase the oil VERY slowly, It is a very large quantity and they can get rather huffy about eating. I mix my boys in with lightly soaked speedibeet and give it time to soak in before putting it on his alfa oil, Also don't forget to supplement with vit e and selenium, www.horsesupplementsdirect.co.uk do a fab one called performance horse supplement which is an allround vit and min supplement with raised vit e and selenium.

Goodluck and hope it helps...I take it you've visited www.ruralheritage.com??? If not then well worth it!
