It is only 19% fat, so for my Shire I would need to feed 10 1bs (4.5kg) a day for it to have any benifit for his EPSM... I don't know how much it is but rice bran like Equi Jewel is usualy about 30 pounds for 20kg. So a 20kg sack would last 4 ish days....

It is possible to feed an EPSM horse rice bran... however, this is what Dr Valentine has to say on the subject " rice bran is only 20% fat, so you need five pounds of rice bran to provide the same amount of fat as two cups (one pound) of vegetable oil. Rice bran also contains some starches, which means the total diet will have less calories from fat. Use rice bran only when abbsolutly necessary..."

Methinks I will stick to my Healthy Hoof, Corn oil and selenium which works out at two pounds fifty a day for the whole lot!

You might be interested in this http://www.baileyshorsefeeds.co.uk/whatproduct/supplements/outshine.htm which is 26% fat... still expensive, but you use less per feed.

Would have to agree with Dr Valentine and add rice is not a natural feed for horses and you would be pushed to find its origin and more importantly its status such as GM and the amount and type of pesticides used on it, sounds a bit of a gimmic, would stick to plant oils and leave off the carbs. I personally feed forage based and add plant oils and a balancer in the Winter. Try to get cold pressed oil if you choose this route, I think there is a farm in East Anglia that presses its own oil.
