hi , i used equest promox on r horses in april , so they should have been done again 13wks later with equest green but and im ashamed to say it went totally out of my head and they missed it . its now the start of auteum and it says you should use promox again , is this alrite to do ? none of them have every had worms and r normally on a good worming programme.

thanks

If they have never had worms why worm them? How do you know? Get a worm count done, you may not have to worm. Save your Pramox for later in the year to cover encysted redworm, tapeworm and bots in one go.

Just a word about bots. Equest Pramox (moxidectin) is not totally effective against bots. I know this as had a horse 'scoped post worming and there were a lot of bots present. Ivermectin wormers are better for bots, but do not cover encysted red worm or tapeworm, which Equest wormers do.

My gelding was always wormed along with all the other horses with whatever the vets or advice was going at the time but I had an egg count done three years ago and he had a high worm burden.
You cannot see eggs or worms in the poo (unless they are the large strongyles) so don't assume your horse hasn't got any.
I agree that you should have a worm count done, you can buy the kits at tack shops or check out Westgate Labs services on-line or your vet will test for you.
Then you will know whether you really need to worm or not. Worms are now very resistant to the chemicals because everyone routinely uses wormers so we need to get back to only worming if really necessary.
