hi i would like to start my own business in cornwall, by opening a equestrian store, does anyone know the best wholesalers to shop at? and in general where to start? would appreciate the help!

Westgate and Shires are the 2 best places to start.
Weatherbetta are difficult to get going with as they ask for a huge ££££'s minimum order. Same for people such as Stubben etc.
Then there are littler ones such as Sherwood Forest, Tally Ho, English Gaiter Co. etc etc etc. Believe me, when your shop is opened, you will be inundated with reps calling!

The larger wholesalers will assess your location carefully and tend to refuse to supply you if you are too close to another equestrian business. You won't get credit for a few months/orders, so be prepared for a large stock outlay.

Do you have premises yet? You'll need to think about alarm systems, redecoration, insurance, tills, stock control system & storage, credit/debit card point, changing rooms, safe, special display units, rug washing facilities always draw customers in as do saddlery repairs etc.

I was involved with setting up and managing an equestrian store a couple of years ago, so anything else you need to know, feel free to PM me!
