Not posted here much but thought i'd give it a try!!

I'm a student in my first year at university and this summer I really want to do something different.
I've been looking into doing some equestrian work abroad and a lot of it really doesn't seem feasible. I'd love to go somewhere like South Africa but i'd be quite happy just going to Ireland!
Many places, to volunteer, cost around £1.5k for about 3-4 weeks and as a student that's asking a lot!!

Could anyone make any recommendations as to how to go about it/where to look? Has anyone ever done something like this before?

Thanks.

Real gap do a few equestrian trips. I'm really trying to save to go on a horse rehabilitation one in south africa. It may be worth looking on there to see if there are any horse ones you may be interested in!

I went to Canada, the USA and New Zealand and worked with horses. Got myself a visa to work out there and got my jobs once I was there. Canada I ended up seeing an ad in a tack shop and spent a year grooming for top class show hunters and showjumpers, took me to the USA and around Canada.

In New Zealand I just phoned up trekking places to start with and asked if they had any work available, ended up guiding treks through the mountains near Queenstown, then I moved on, called a few more horse people whos details I found on the internet and ended up grooming for 4* eventers (one who has now done Burghley and Badminton) and Grand prix showjumpers including at NZ Horse of the Year Show and as a NZ team groom, plus I worked for Mark Todd with his racehorses for a while.

Basically I got my visa sorted, fleew out there and then took pot luck! Best two years of my life! PM me if you want more info.
