Has anyone ever used these boots to prevent mud fever. What did you think of them. I'm thining of getting a pair for my mare's back legs where she seems to be prone to mud fever. My worry is that the mud may be able to work its way up the boots if she walks through deep mud. Any comments would be appreciated. thanks.

I use them and in general they are good for keeping the legs clean and away from mud. Make sure the legs are completely free of mud fever before putting them on though.

They are good if you make sure they fit and that they are put on correctly. At my old job some grooms used to put them on too loose, too low or too high and either way the mud got in there.

I got some a couple of years ago when my horse had mudfever but didnt use them very often as trouble is getting them clean and dry to use them the next day if your not at the yard twice a day! Probs best to have a spare pair so you always have a clean set to use if your horse suffers from bad mud fever worth the investment and time. My friend used them regularly and did find they prevented mud fever but also found getting them dry and clean for the next day difficult.

We use the Equi-Chaps close contact boots, not sure if the are meant for mud fever, but that's why we use them.
We find them useful, as we have wellie sucking off mud, that has to be crossed to reach the field, our problem is, our boy's legs swell standing in, leaving a slight gap
once he starts moving, allowing the mud in, I got from E Bay latex hoof boots, which go under the close contacts and job done, protection from the mud.
Equi Chaps are also good for protecting our TB's thin skinned heels from the frozen
ruts we have at present, I'm running out of purple spray, dealing with scraped heels, from going out/coming in. Two sets are better than one
