Equi-trek show trekka experiences?

I'm looking at trailers and have been advised to get one with living. I've seen a few Equi-trek show trekkas for sale but haven't view any as too far away. From googling, my understanding is that the sleeping areas are super narrow, so you have to sleep like a pencil. In which case I'd rather just spend less on a newer trailer and sleep in the car. Just wondered if anyone had any experience with these kinds of trailers? Also any potential failure points? I'm only looking at ones that have been serviced in the last 6 months. Cheers.

I've had one since 2018 I think, love it, I did have to get the ramp redone and the sleeping bench isn't wide, but I've got used to it and camp in the New Forest for a week each summer and do spring autumn/winter weekend stay aways in it just fine. It tows much better than my very old rice/richardson and Amber travels well in it. I recommend the double duvet burrito trick, so you don't get the cold wall on your back when you sleep. The little hob works well, I've never used the sink, just tip water out of a bottle. If you want a bigger living, have you looked at the newer star-treka or multi-treka they have a bigger bed and kitchen/toilet etc. I've got half an eye on one or if I win the lottery ;) I do have a friend with a show-Treka who has a clever partner who made a wooden slide out bit with legs on that she can pull out once arrived to make the bed wider.

Yes I had one, someone had added an extra wooden board that pulled out that meant the bed could be widened, though I never actually did sleep in it myself. Lovely trailer and I've since upgraded to the new Day-Treka as I don't need overnight living right now, horses travel well in it and the front storage is huge! My plan is to have the front converted to living if I start doing away shows again.

Oh don't I've been looking at the nite trekka and I'm in love 😍 but I'm trying to be sensible! The one I'm looking at is about 10 years old. Do you happen to know if there's any particular things I should be looking at if I go view? I know the older ifors had trouble with the panels rotting, but I don't know what to look for in the Equi-treks. Wish there was some kind of vetting service I could use, I've no idea what I'm doing.

Thanks so much, you guys have made me quite keen on them now, I'd written them off because I like to sleep like a flamingo with one leg tucked up. Any particular things I need to look at in a 10 year old Equi-trek that are likely to go? It's been regularly serviced but is due it's next which is ringing alarm bells slightly.

We used to have a Day Trekka and we’ve camped in it a few times. Move the partition, chuck down an old IKEA rug and pop two camping beds in.

I was wondering about camping in it. I have a shogun so was thinking I could take out the two rear seats and put in a blow up mattress. But would have much more room in a trailer. I'm guessing it gets pretty cold overnight though?

I imagine it could be the same as staying in the horse area of a 3.5t in which case it's very doable but I will caveat this that I haven't stayed in it much below 10 at night.

We had one and had an inflatable mattress in the horse area. Worked really well. Word of caution though, they are really heavy. You need the towing hitch right under the socket, there is no manual moving it an inch or 2.

Oh that's good to know thank you! Wouldn't have thought of that at all.

I’m not sure when they switched from wooden panels to fibreglass, so for a ten year old trailer I’d be looking for signs of soft/ damp/ peeling panels. Same for the floor, I’d want someone to check the axels/ wheels/ breaks/ etc.

I bought a second hand old night treka which was such a good trailer but I didn’t use the cooker or bunk beds so eventually upgraded to a new day one. I was expecting it to be even better as it was new but It’s no where near as good in terms of quality. I wrote to Equitrek to complain as my horse had to have stitches in his head due to poor build quality. I’m still waiting for a reply two months on.

I loved mine! Which I sold to Huffly Puffly when I upgraded to my 3.5T lorry. I did use the double bed option - my daughter and I could both sleep in there comfortably, and often did.
When I was looking I looked for one with a newish ramp and I checked the panel for any sponginess.

Not sure if it’s in that model, but I believe that the human area floor is different to the horse area floor so both need checking carefully. May also be worth finding out if the struts for the ramp have ever been replaced. They are replaceable, but it’s not the cheapest job as I think they have to come from Equi Trek.

Sorry to hijack, but why exactly do the struts have to replaced by Equi-trek, do you know?
The struts on my 3.5t need replacing but I thought it would be an easy / do at home job

OH has done them for customers. Couldn’t source any other than from EquiTrek so a garage can do them with the EquiTrek struts. He’d hoped to source a different make at lower price for the customers and you’d have to very careful as new ones will have extremely high pressure so potentially dangerous job.

No worse than a tent, we layered up with duvets, my daughter has done it twice age 6 and 7 so it can’t be that bad. Preferable to a tent as you have room to stand and a door! I gaffer taped pillow cases over the windows to keep the light out.

when i had a trail-treka, the mechanic said equitrek ones go the opposite way in/out, after he caught his finger in it🤣 possibly why they’re more difficult to replace. luckily (or unluckily) mine didn’t need replacing, i was just a weakling lol.

Well I'm also a weakling 😆 but they are also quite stiff and don't have much of an initial spring any more

i really struggled to do mine on my own! that was my only complaint with it, but ended up selling it and getting a box as one of mine didn’t like it - the other one hadn’t liked the ifor williams which is why i’d swapped in the first place🙄😂

There is a company in Derby, SGS, who can supply almost any type of gas struts. I’ve used them several times for my cars.

Tbh I photographed the code printed on the side of the strut, I thought surely that contains all the information I need - I sent that to one online company and they said they didn't recognise it.....so I gave up....must try harder 🙄
