Toying with the idea of changing my trailer and have recently seen a couple of Equi-Treks being towed.

I quite like the look of them and the fact that they have a living area / day area but what are they really like to tow and their practicality etc?

My horse doesn't like to stand on them at shows as he can't look straight out like he can in my Ifor with the window open. But he is nosey! They are handy with the space to get changed in especially in the winter! I actually prefer the space treka to the show treka as the bench etc tends to get in the way and you can do what ever you want with the room in the space treka.

I know several people with them. You do need something substantial to tow with as they are heavier than an Ifor. The horses generally travel well in them. On the negative side, they do not wear well and aren't as well finished as an Ifor. Also I have seen several get stuck (even towed by Disco/Isuzus), as they have quite small wheels that tend to sink on soft ground.

i agree that you need a mega 4x4 eg Toyota Amazon/ RangeRover/ Nissan Patrol to tow with. my old boss had one and it destroyed the gearbox on her Mercedes ML AMG in 6 months

They are also useful for pulling over the pumps at petrol stations......

Ha Ha HuntingGirl!! That day sounds side splitting!!!

Well with the sound of it I'd have to change my vehicle then if I wanted one.

I've got a Diahatsu Fourtrak which are good work horses but not got the pulling power of the Toyota Amazon or RangeRover.

I cant afford to do both so it looks like I'll stick with the Ifor Williams!

Thanks to all that replied! x

Ive got one and I LOVE it, worth the extra money ( I just bought a cheap 4x4 to tow to justify) I did have an Isuzu to tow, which was awesome but it got written off so now Im hoping to buy a Nissan Navara. IMO they are worth the extra cost.

Ive found this interesting as we too have a fourtrak and the dealership said it would be fine, after all it can tow 3500kg. The basic SpaceTreka L is 1150kg so isnt much heavier than the IW510 at 1000kg. I can understand not wanting to tow one of the ones with overnight stay in them, is it a 5*??

Your Fourtrak will be fine towing an Equi-Trek Disco, as they have one of the heaviest towing weights of a 4x4. Probably higher towing weight than a RangeRover anyway.

Ooooh right thanks, I knew they were proper workhorses but they seem so tiny compared to the bigger 4 x 4's and the 3500kg stated seemed an awful lot. Well they say size doesnt matter

We used to have a bloke at the old yard saying to us that we shouldnt be towing with it!!! We then towed a 505. He wouldnt have it, going on how much more his Disco could tow. Used to really annoy me.

I've got one. The 5 star I think it is with living, double bed, loo, water hose at the back etc. I love having it on the yard as its so handy - like a little caravan! My horse does travel well in it but then again I think he travels well anyway as he has come all the way from South America via Italy. The backwards facing travel does seem to be helpful though.

I tow mine with a Pajero no probs, but the trailer is big and not the easiest thing to position!

Let us know what you go for wont you? Good luck in your search
