Hi,
I'm interested in buying a used Equi trek trailer, but want to avoid those made when there were alleged build quality issues. Does anyone know when the improvements were made, e.g. should I look at trailers less than 3, 2 or 1 years old?

Thanks!

I have a very old Equitrek (the orginal kind that is a different shape in front and you can actually get a decent sized saddle through the grooms door), it's fab and the quality is great. I have repeatedly heard people saying they were advised by various dealers etc they want to find ones like this. I think the brand new ones are much better too.

I actually sold by 510 (younger) to get this trailer!

went to look at a 5 year old one the other day, totally awful!!

saw some new ones at the same time looked pretty good, were a bit worried it would get bad like the old one. saw a 2 year old one that was supposed to be lightly used, was in terrible condition had bits missing off it etc, the tack cupboard looked like it had been done by a child, awful things!

also i have heard stories of the axel braking and equitrek being bad about helping with this.

our friends managed to find a well made one, but very few were well made.

oh and if you were planning on going to bearts of stowbridge, don't we went there, the man was so rude to us, trying to tell us that there was nothing wrong with the trailers when they were obviously c**p and falling to pieces in front of us! have never been treated so badly anywhere!

Oh dear, this doesn't sound encouraging. I wish someone else would move in to the market of making trailers with living, that might help to raise standards.

Hmmm!

Ican't tell you precisely when the improvements were made but the Show-Treka I bought in 2007 (made in 2006) did have axle problems. I was lucky in that Equi-Trek cellected my trailer from Scotland, replaced both axles, and returned it to me free of charge in 2009.

I now have a Star-Treka made in 2009 and it has been fairly good. The front window leaked over the first winter, the leisure battery has a short life, the partition clip broke, but nothing major! Happy overall and, more importantly, so do the horses.

Mine is 2 years old, and I go out in it on average once a week, so quite heavy use for a privately owned trailer I would say. It has never let me down and has been fantastic. There are ifors on our yard, and a couple of times the ifors had problems, once with breaks getting stuck and another with electrical problems, and we saved the day by letting them use our equitrek, and on both times the ifor owners said how much easier ours was to use, and that ours was smoother to tow than their ifor is.

The only negative I've had is that if you go to a competition with limited parking, the stewards sometimes get flusted because (being a side loader) you need over twice the parking space of a rear loader. LOL
