Has anybody used the equiami on the lunge to build up a horses muscles and help their balance?
It was only today when I popped a few jumps that I realised how unbalanced my boy is, I’ve only had him a few months but he really struggled with staying upright round corners and his canter was quite flat (or all legs when he got excited!)
I have regular flatwork lessons and there’s definitely been an improvement, his walk and trot is now soft and balanced most of the time but it’s still a work in progress, just wondering if anyone has used them on a horse that’s just learning to carry them self? He’s 10 but has only started ‘proper’ work since I’ve had him, before he was just a light hack.
Thanks x

I've got one and have been impressed with how well my mare works in it. She has some underlying physical issues and it encourages her to work properly and it's definitely helped with her straightness

Yes I have one and occasionally use it on a horse for a while .
I don’t like them on very weak horses I would rather use nothing or a lunging rope and poles on the ground and time to develop the very weak horse .

Yes, I found it good, you only use it for a short time, I was told build up to 20 minutes 3 times a week maximum. I could see an improvement.

20 minutes on the lunge is a LONG time, even without being strapped up; it's the absolute maximum time I will lunge even the fit, muscled horses. I am not a fan of lots of ropes and pulleys, I will go as far as side reins on the more balanced guys, and perhaps Vienna reins on horses with serious misunderstandings. Is the equi ami one of the ones that sock them in the mouth with every stride?

I'm not a gadget person at all but I bought and EquiAmi to help rehab my older horse with SI issues and have found it's actually a great bit of kit.

I've been using it since Nov on my other horse horse with contact issues, he works well in it and has finally gained topline and muscle in places no amount of previous work could do. It is one big, continuous loop so it doesn't hold them down the way some gadgets do. I like the fact the front section is like a Vienna rein, but without being fixed, and that if they do lose balance they can raise their head. It very much guides them into a frame rather than forcing.

My only issue is that the horse has put so much correct muscle on he needed a new dressage saddle!

Unfortunately it didn't fit my horse properly so if your horse takes 7ft+ rugs, the over 7ft equiami might not be big enough. I'm afraid it made my big lad overbend immediately. The back half of it was ok but I could replace that with a tail bandage for a lot less cost. I'm going to see if there's any alteration that can be made but I suspect I'll have a second hand, lightly used equi-ami for sale very soon. :(

I agree they need to make an extra large mine does not fit my ID .

This is a good point. Although my horse is only just over 15h, she's from draft bloodlines and is in 6'6" rugs and xxw saddles. I have the extender for the strap under the tummy but without the extender the front end of the equiami is not far off its longest setting. Perhaps if she ever came out of rehab mode (she's a walking vet's bill) then I could have it a bit tighter, but currently I prefer it on the long side.

I’ve had that issue with my big horse. You can buy an extension kit from Equiami (or just get creative with baler twine).

Did it help with the contact issues? When I first take a contact mine automatically starts thinking backwards, no amount of bits or bitless bridles help! It takes him a while to think, okay forward and work!

He only takes 6/6’3 rugs and a MW saddle so I think we’ll be okay!
