My 3 year old who I have a few weeks now came to me very hairy, and underneath all of his hair after I clipped him was scurvy everywhere and had quite a few sores and possible rain scald. His coat is looking very dull - he is fed top spec lite, a handful of chaff and turmeric. I have been looking at feedmark equidermis but it is very expensive it also flax/linseed oil?

Is there any other alternatives or is equidermis really the best?

Linseed is the old school remedy, I remember soaking and then boiling up the seeds and feeding jelly. Ours are all Shiny on high fibre nuts, chaff and a low cal balancer.

You've only had him a few weeks. Being in a more caring home will probably sort him out without spending any money if you just let nature take its course (assuming that all the other horses in the same place have healthy coats and skin).
